January 4, 2002 Recreation Center offers free bowling and billiards at open house WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The newly renovated recreation center in the basement of the Purdue Memorial Union will offer free bowling and billiards to Purdue faculty, staff and students from 9 a.m. to midnight Tuesday (1/8) during an open house. The center features all new paint, carpet and lighting. Synthetic lanes have replaced the traditional wooden bowling lanes. An automatic scoring system also has been installed, along with a new sound system, lasers and black lights for "extreme" bowling. The four bowling lanes in the north section of the facility have been replaced with 12 billiard tables. Terry Clayton, assistant director of the Purdue Memorial Union, says visitors will be pleased with the center's new look and updated equipment. "We are very proud of the renovation project," Clayton says. "We want to share that excitement with the university family."
