June 7, 2002 4-H Round-Up educates and entertains teens WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The 83rd annual 4-H Round-Up June 24-26 at Purdue University will host more than 800 4-Hers who will learn about new careers and valuable leadership skills. Teens from all over the state of Indiana will visit the Purdue campus for the roundup and to get a feel for college life. Round-Up is open to 4-Hers who have just completed seventh, eighth or ninth grades. Tuesday (6/25) will be devoted to careers. 4-Hers will choose three classes from areas such as veterinary medicine, chemistry, agriculture, science, technology, and consumer and family sciences. "Round Up is a great way for 4-Hers to look at three career areas and to help them make decisions on what interests them," said Carl Broady, 4-H youth Extension specialist and co-chair of 4-H Round-Up. "Your Journey Begins" is the theme for this year's Round-Up. The program focuses on discovering and being yourself and enhancing personal growth. Two featured speakers will highlight the message: • Corey Flournoy, Chicago, was the first African-American and non-rural president of the national FFA organization. He also is the founder of Creative Outreach, which has been recognized by the Chicago Sun-Times as a successful youth-run and operated business. • Andrew McCrea is a rancher and farmer from Missouri and is a former national FFA secretary. He has been described as "fun, sincere, inspiring and motivational." McCrea has gained a wealth of experience while traveling across the country and will relate his experiences. Delegates also will enjoy the state 4-H Band Jamboree, the Share-the-Fun Festival and the state 4-H Chorus. Activities at Round-Up include a group photo, community service activity, a "get acquainted" mixer, dance, movie and recreational gym fest. For more information, visit https://www.four-h.purdue.edu.
