Climate change, extreme weather events, unprecedented records in temperatures and higher, acidic oceans make it difficult to predict the long-term fate of modern crop varieties. Purdue agronomy researchers reported on a predictive model they’ve developed that uses machine-learning algorithms to predict how rice yields will be affected by climate change. Their findings were recently published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Kevin Kaufman-Ortiz is pursuing a PhD in engineering education from Purdue. Through an innovative program, he gave a presentation to students last fall at his alma mater, the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez. He is one of 11 doctoral students participating this spring and last fall in Purdue’s HBCU Alma Mater Technical Talk program, which supports current graduate students and postdocs who attended Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) or a U.S. institution in the Caribbean as an undergraduate.
The American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering has announced the induction of Chien-Chi Lin, the Thomas J. Linnemeier Guidant Foundation Endowed Chair and professor of biomedical engineering, to its College of Fellows.
