Purdue is working to revolutionize workforce development for the semiconductor and microelectronics industry, with its latest collaboration focused on delivering virtual twin capabilities to augment and accelerate semiconductor training, research and sustainability, as well as the development of new skills. The latest step in educational excellence is marked by a new Purdue partnership with multinational software giant Dassault Systèmes, a leader in providing virtual twin experiences for global industries.
Purdue’s Plant Sciences team has established a protocol to enable application of unmanned aerial vehicle-based remote sensing thermal imaging. The protocol takes advantage of innovative UAV technologies provided by GRYFN, a company founded at Purdue, and is capable of providing information-rich data for scientists in different disciplines.
As pothole season continues, professor Luna Lu’s smart concrete research continues to get media coverage. Lu’s innovative concrete sensors, which allow concrete to “communicate” with engineers about its strength, were recently featured in a CBS Boston story. The reporter used video from the Purdue News YouTube page to showcase how Lu’s sensors are cutting down construction time and saving taxpayers millions of dollars.
Ranked as tied for No. 7 by U.S. News & World Report in its most recent survey of specialty programs for graduate students in 2022, Purdue’s industrial and organizational (I-O) psychology program is one of the nation’s best — and oldest. It also has graduated more PhDs and produced more Society of Industrial and Organizational Psychology fellows than any other program.
Purdue has begun work to improve the reading abilities of K-12 students in Indiana by strengthening teacher preparation using science-based methods. The work is funded in part by a $1.5 million grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. awarded to Purdue in August as part of Lilly Endowment’s Advancing the Science of Reading in Indiana initiative, which launched in 2022.
