Purdue and Duke Energy released an interim report Wednesday (May 10) that describes small modular reactors as one of the most promising emerging technologies and a potential, carbon-free option that should be further explored to help meet the future, long-term power needs of Purdue.
Purdue engineers have developed a patent-pending tool to make the manufacture of ultrathin semiconductors more consistent, controllable and repeatable than traditional methods. Thomas Beechem, associate professor of mechanical engineering, leads a research team that has created a tool that uses a dry-transfer process to move graphene and other ultrathin, 2D materials from the growth substrate where they are synthesized to a device substrate.

In a new episode of “This Is Purdue,” the podcast team takes listeners behind the scenes during the Purdue Institute for Cancer Research’s 15th annual Challenge 5K run/walk. More than 900 runners and walkers participated in this year’s Challenge, raising more than $100,000 for cancer research. The episode features the Challenge’s 2023 guests of honor, Tony and Kelly Trent, parents of the late Tyler Trent, a 20-year-old Purdue student from Carmel, Indiana, who passed away from a rare form of bone cancer in 2019.
Purdue Global will expand educational opportunities for working adults from underserved communities with the support of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The grant will help Purdue Global develop a plan to support the success of more working adult learners, ensure equitable access and support the success of Black, Latino, Indigenous and low-income students by creating a community to foster the retention and graduation of all students, regardless of their background.
