Vanguards

What is the Vanguard?

The Vanguard is a United Way giving program that recognizes donors of $1,000 or more annually. In 2005, Purdue had 235 Vanguards. Most Vanguard donors give to support the administrative expenses of the campaign so that all other donors may be certain 100 percent of their gifts go directly to the agencies. Vanguard donors may also choose to direct all or part of their contributions to agency support.

Individuals or combined households contributing at the following levels qualify for membership in the Vanguard:

Pearl $1,000-$1,499
Topaz $1,500-$1,999
Sapphire $2,000-$3,499
Ruby $3,500-$4,999
Emerald $5,000-$9,999
Alexis de Tocqueville Society $10,000 and up

Vanguard contributors are very special to United Way — and to our community. Most designate their contributions to underwrite the United Way budget so all other gifts may go directly to the agencies. Last year, Vanguards contributed $1 million more than was needed to fund the United Way. This went to the agencies to fund unmet needs.
