The Vanguard

What is the Vanguard?

The Vanguard is a United Way giving program that recognizes donors of $1,000 or more annually. In 2011, Purdue had 300 Vanguards. Most Vanguard donors allot a portion of their donation to support the administrative expenses of the campaign so that all other donors may be certain 100 percent of their gifts go directly to the agencies. Vanguard donors may also choose to direct all or part of their contributions to agency support.

Individuals or combined households contributing at the following levels qualify for membership in the Vanguard:

Pearl $1,000-$1,499
Topaz $1,500-$1,999
Sapphire $2,000-$3,499
Ruby $3,500-$4,999
Emerald $5,000-$9,999
Alexis de Tocqueville Society $10,000 and up

Vanguard contributors are very special to United Way — and to our community. Last year, Vanguards contributed more than was needed to fund the United Way. This went to the agencies to fund unmet needs.

Give a little more...Help a lot more!

(And get a deal on Purdue Boilermaker Football too!)

Become a Vanguard, increase your Vanguard level, or pledge to be a Vanguard and you will help the Greater Lafayette community even more! (Vanguard gifts are at least $1,000 annually.)

This year, every new or increased unrestricted dollar you give toward becoming a Vanguard (or increasing to a new level of Vanguard) will be matched dollar-for-dollar, thanks to a grant from Eli Lilly Endowment.

A special offer for Boiler Football Fans:

When you take advantage of one of these Vanguard opportunities, you will be offered a discount to the September 29 Boilers vs. Marshall football game at Ross Ade! (See your pledge package for details.)

"Stepping up" to Vanguard?

Just indicate on your pledge card that you are giving $500 this year, and will plan to give $1,000 by 2014. For this "Step up" pledge, you will be recognized in the Vanguard Directory. (Please indicate on pledge card if you are taking advantage of the Vanguard "Step Up" or Football Ticket Offer. Vanguard levels are indicated on pledge card.)
