  • Nearly 100,000 private foundations
  • $750 billion in assets
  • Awarded 3.5 million grants totaling $188 billion in the last six years
  • Grants ranged from $4 thousand to $535 million
  • Education garnered 24% of the total

 

Giving Trends in USA

  • Family and private foundation giving has risen
  • New surge of large gifts (over $100 million) by large foundations
  • Rising number of collaborations between two or more large foundations
  • In 2001, 9 out of 10 foundations awarded grants to higher and graduate educational institutions
  • Foundation giving rose 11.7% to $40.7 billion in 2006 (See Figure A)

Campaign for Purdue Totals

The Campaign for Purdue exceeded its goal of $1.5 billion. Foundations contributed 19% of the funds raised (See Figure B). More information is available on the Campaign for Purdue Web site.
