Class Project: South Campus Plaza
The South Campus Plaza, adjacent to the new Pao Center for
Visual and Performing Arts and just west of the Dauch Alumni
Center, will feature two distinct areas with multi-level platforms for
seating and displays, and unique landscaping that will extend to the
Dauch Alumni Center, creating a thoroughfare of greenery from the
Ag Mall area to Grant Street at the Alumni Center. The plaza will be
a heavily traveled route from the Village area and will be a perfect
gathering place for students, staff, and alumni, and an ideal atmosphere
for outdoor classes and meetings. A full city block of Wood
Street between Marsteller and Sheetz streets has been permanently
closed to accommodate this beautiful oasis—the first extensive
green-space developed for the south campus area. A permanent
plaque acknowledging our class gift will be prominently placed in the plaza.
As a University priority, construction has already begun
and is scheduled for completion sometime this summer. The Classes
of 1956 and 1957 plan to gather during Homecoming 2007, when we
hope many ’56 and ’57 alums will be on campus, to officially dedicate
our historic class legacy.

In the true tradition of class gifts, our classes have undertaken an
ambitious project that will be a magnificent legacy for our great
classes. Our goal is to raise $500,000 — $250,000 per class — to
construct the South Campus Plaza. Take the Class Challenge and help us create this wonderful plaza to commemeorate our time at Purdue.
