In April 2005, the Class of 1955 gathered during Gala Weekend to celebrate the 50th anniversary of our graduation from Purdue.  Where has the time gone?  Most will agree that the past 50 years have passed by much too quickly.  It seems just yesterday we were sitting in The Sweet Shop listening to the likes of Perry Como, Rosemary Clooney, and (yikes!) Bill Haley and the Comets (Rock & Roll was here to stay).

The occasion of our 50th anniversary is an opportunity to acknowledge all the benefits we have enjoyed as a result of our Purdue education.  Although much has happened in our lives and we’ve scattered throughout the country and even the world, memories of the time we spent at Purdue hold a special place in our hearts. 

Through the years, much has changed at our alma mater—but much has also stayed the same.  Purdue still offers one of the best educations in the country, and many of the traditions we enjoyed while here still endure.  One of those enduring traditions is The Original Sweet Shop in the Union Building.  This thoroughly Purdue experience was already a campus tradition when we were here more than 50 years ago!  And as our 50th anniversary class gift, we’d like to insure that it will always be one of the mainstays of campus life.

Our class gift campaign was announced at our 50th reunion celebration during Gala Weekend, April 15-17.  Our goal is to raise $100,000 for The Class of 1955 Sweet Shop Endowment.  We hope to achieve this goal over the next year and celebrate the successful conclusion of the campaign next spring during Spring-fest/Gala Weekend. The Sweet Shop is a great Purdue tradition.  Our Sweet Shop endowment will be a wonderful gift to the University and future generations of Purdue students, and a great legacy for the Class of 1955.  We ask that you give it your full support.  Hail Purdue!
