Description
The Director of Development for the Department of Engineering Education will report to the Associate Vice President for Advancement and will work closely with the Department Head, Director of Advancement for the College of Engineering and will coordinate activities with the Director of Foundation Relations. The primary purpose of the position is to plan and implement major gift activities aimed toward the Engineering Education Department fundraising priorities, including strategies and a timeline for the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual and corporate prospects/donors. The position would also help to develop an understanding of and relationships with foundations with a focus on broader engineering education programs and activities across the College of Engineering.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Communications, Journalism or related field.
- Three or more years of experience in development, including solicitation of gifts in a non-profit organization.
- Excellent verbal/written communication along with strong leadership, organization, interpersonal and listening skills.
- Good teamwork and customer service skills.
- Strong conceptual understanding of development, public relations and marketing.
- Ability to identify prospects, cultivate relationships, secure and steward gifts.
- Ability to represent the university with tact and diplomacy at all levels.
- Ability to meet established deadlines and work under pressure.
- Ability to work with and maintain highly sensitive and confidential information.
- Ability to travel.
- Strong personal computer and related software skills.
Preferred:
- Higher education major gift fundraising experience.
- Foundation relations experience.
- Marketing and communication experience.
- Familiarity with major gift fundraising and opportunities in Engineering and Science Education.
- Knowledge of finance, planned giving and foundation relations.
Additional Information
- Travel is required for this position.
- A check of criminal conviction records will be made for employment in this position.
- FLSA: Exempt (Not Eligible for Overtime)
- Retirement Eligibility: TIAA/CREF Contribution Waiting Period
