Description
Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Advancement the Director of Development will develop and execute a plan to bring donors to the University through active use of the development process. The Director of Development is responsible for securing major gifts aimed at meeting the strategic goals of the University. The position will assist with identifying events and activities that enhance relationships and Purdue's visibility in the region and are responsible for aiding the colleges/schools/units, as needed. etc. Administratively supervises 1 non-exempt, full-time employee.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree.
- Five years of experience in fund development including solicitation of gifts and/or related work experience.
- Knowledge of philanthropy and fundraising principles.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including demonstrated ability to communicate well in writing and speaking before large groups.
- Ability to interpret and articulate the mission of Purdue University.
- Ability to interact with stakeholders from a wide range of professional and cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to represent the University with tact and diplomacy at all times.
- Ability for sound judgment, initiative and ability to collaborate effectively.
- Excellent relationship-building, organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to continuously improve professional competency through participation of professional education opportunities.
- Good computer skills.
- Ability to work independently and be highly self-motivated.
- Ability to travel and work weekends.
- Frequent travel between West Lafayette and the West Coast region.
Preferred:
- Advanced degree.
- Experience in higher education.
- Familiarity with Purdue University.
- Familiarity with the West Coast region.
- Knowledge of finance, planned giving, alumni relations and corporate and foundation relations.
Additional Information
- Travel is required for this position.
- Some weekend and evening work is required for this position.
- A check of criminal conviction records will be made for employment in this position.
- FLSA: Exempt (Not Eligible for Overtime)
- Retirement Eligibility: TIAA/CREF Contributions Immediately.
