Director of Development, College of Agriculture - West Lafayette - University Development Office

Description

Reporting to the Director of Advancement and working closely with the Associate Vice President for Advancement, Dean (Unit Head) and other development and academic staff, the Director of Development will develop and execute a plan to bring donors to the unit and the University through active use of the development process, including solicitation of major gifts.  The Director of Development is responsible for securing major gifts aimed at meeting the strategic goals of the unit leadership, their programs, disciplines and the University.  A focus for the Director of Development is to assist in the design and implement a comprehensive Advancement program for the unit.  The Director of Development will work closely with College Director of Advancement, and Administration Advancement staff to coordinate college and school advancement activities, including communications, alumni relations and development.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Three years of experience in fund development including solicitation of major gifts and/or related work experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the demonstrated ability to communicate well in writing and speaking before large groups.
  • Ability to interpret and articulate the mission of Purdue University.
  • Ability to interact with stakeholders from a wide range of professional and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to represent the University with tact and diplomacy at all times.
  • Sound judgment, initiative, and ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Excellent relationship-building, organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to continuously improve professional competency through participation in professional education opportunities.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Ability to travel and perform weekend duties.
  • Ability to travel and work weekends.
Preferred:
  • Advanced degree.
  • Experience in higher education or other non-profit organizations.
  • Familiarity with the programs of the College of Agriculture.
  • Knowledge of finance, planned giving, alumni relations, corporate relations, and advancement communications.

Additional Information

  • Travel is required for this position.
  • Some weekend and evening work is required for this position.
  • A check of criminal conviction records will be made for employment in this position.
  • FLSA:  Exempt (Not Eligible for Overtime)
  • Retirement Eligibility:  TIAA/CREF Contribution Waiting Period.
