Morgan R. Olsen
Morgan R. Olsen is executive vice president and treasurer of Purdue University. He serves as Purdue's chief business and financial officer, administering the University's $1.7 billion operating budget and the capital budget. As the treasurer of the Purdue Board of Trustees, Dr. Olsen is responsible for managing securities, properties, funds, and trust funds belonging to Purdue. He oversees business and financial affairs, including accounting, payroll, contracts, grants, and purchasing on Purdue's four campuses; human resources functions; transportation, airport operations, and other service facilities. Dr. Olsen also is responsible for functions including internal audit, risk management, and investments; planning, financing, developing, maintaining, and operating campus physical facilities, performance halls, University Residences, and dining services; legal affairs and real estate; the police and fire departments; and for managing financial relationships with University-affiliated corporations and foundations. He and the provost share responsibility for oversight of Purdue's information technology functions.
Dr. Olsen serves on the board of directors of the United Educators insurance company and the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) and is the immediate past chair of NACUBO. He is a past president of the Central Association of College and University Business Officers. Dr. Olsen also holds memberships in EDUCAUSE, the Association for the Study of Higher Education, and The Society for College and University Planning.
Dr. Olsen came to Purdue University in October 2004 from Southern Methodist University, where he served as vice president for business and finance. Dr. Olsen served previously at Eastern Illinois University, as vice president for business affairs and treasurer and as an associate professor in the college student personnel program. He also had been the vice president for fiscal affairs at Emporia State University in Kansas.
Dr. Olsen earned a bachelor's degree, summa cum laude, and a master's degree in public administration from the University of North Dakota, where he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. Dr. Olsen earned a Ph.D. in higher education from the University of Kansas. He served as acting executive budget analyst for the North Dakota Office of Management and Budget before entering university administration in 1985.
Dr. Olsen resides in West Lafayette, Indiana, with his wife, Beth Saiki-Olsen, and their two daughters.
