The issue of diversity has evolved over the years
and continues to receive scrutiny as organizations
struggle to find ways to become more competitive in
today's global marketplace while dealing with shifts
in the nation's population demographics.
Purdue University believes that a diverse work force
is essential to our success. A diverse work force strengthens
our organization by helping us appeal to the best talent
and deliver the highest quality of services. We have
made a commitment in our strategic plan to attracting,
retaining and promoting staff members of all backgrounds.
A Diversity Task Force has been formed within the
Treasurer's area from operating units to:
- Benchmark best practices in diversity recruitment,
retention, and outreach
- Seek input from individuals within the University
and the community and draw out ideas for enhancing
staff diversity
- Estimate the resources required to implement specific
strategies and actions
- Develop strategies and actions to expand the number
of minority individuals in Purdue's applicant pool
and to increase both the number of job offers made
to minority applicants and the number of minority
candidates hired
- Study the factors influencing the retention of
minority staff and recommend strategies and actions
to promote retention
- Monitor the progress and effectiveness of diversity
efforts
The group will provide focus and increased energy toward
diversity efforts within the Treasurer's organization. Over
the coming months, the Task Force will work together
with diverse campus organizations to develop strategies
for addressing diversity, with an emphasis on recruitment
and retention. A primary goal of that plan will be to
integrate diversity into all aspects of our work life.
