Upcoming Requirements for Travelers

The Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 requires that by January 1, 2008, travelers to and from the Caribbean, Bermuda, Panama, Mexico and Canada have a passport or other secure, accepted document to enter or re-enter the United States.

The proposed timeline will be as follows:

  • December 31, 2006 - Requirement applied to all air and sea travel to or from Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda.
  • December 31, 2007 - Requirement extended to all land border crossings as well as air and sea travel.

New U.S. Customs and Border Protection Requirement

Effective October 4, 2005, U.S. Government legislation requires all passengers to supply Advance Passenger Information (API) when traveling into or out of the U.S.

All passengers must supply name, gender, date of birth and passport details (number, expiration date & country of issue).  Passengers who possess a green card must supply the serial number.

Be sure to give this information to  your travel agent, as failure to enter the API into the booking before the passenger arrives at the airport may result in considerable passenger inconvenience.
