The TransCom 3 “kick-off” workshop was held in San Francisco, December 4th and 5th, 1998. Approximately 30 carbon modelers from around the world attended.

The first day was devoted to talks on the latest work being performed by the participating groups. The second day was devoted to generating consensus on the format and structure of the TransCom 3 experiments which was first proposed at a smaller workshop held at the University of California, Santa Barbara in February of 1998.
