Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I go for STD/STI testing?
On campus, you can be tested for STDs/STIs at the Purdue Student Health Center (PUSH).
- To schedule an appointment, call 765-494-6504.
- Walk-in appointments are also available during regular business hours.
In the community, you can be tested at Planned Parenthood in Lafayette.
- To schedule an appointment, call 765-446-8078.
Is there a single test to check for everything?
When you meet with a healthcare provider at your appointment, he/she will go over your sexual history and risks and determine which tests are best for you. There is no single test that screens for everything. Each STD (gonorrhea, HIV, etc.) must be tested for separately and incurs separate testing costs.
How much does testing cost?
Talking to a doctor and having a consultation for a 'illness' visit is free of charge at PUSH if you are a full-time student. The costs for STD testing come from the fees for the lab tests themselves. There is no way to determine what your costs will be until you meet with a healthcare provider and he/she then recommends which tests are best for you.
If you have health insurance, you can have the costs billed to them, but it is up to the insurance company to decide what they will cover. If you are covered by your parents' insurance, you can choose to have it billed to them, but many students choose not to do this because of privacy concerns. If you don't have insurance or choose not to bill insurance, you will have to pay the costs yourself.
