Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I get an exam (pap smear, gyno exam, breast exam, testicular exam, etc.)?
If you have any concerns about your reproductive health, you can visit the Student Health Center (PUSH). The healthcare providers at PUSH can provide consultations and exams for both men and women. You can visit if have a problem or concern, or you can also come in for a wellness check, including annual gynecological exams.

I can't afford the cost of the gynecological exam/pap smear. What should I do?
If you have health insurance, you can have the costs billed to them, but it is up to the insurance company to decide what they will cover. If you are covered by your parents' insurance, you can choose to have it billed to them, but some students choose not to do this because of privacy concerns. If you don't have insurance or choose not to bill to them, you will have to pay the costs yourself.
If you decide to pay the charges yourself, there is a program that can help decrease the costs. The YWCA's Women's Cancer Program helps defray the costs of a pap test and clinical breast exam for women who qualify. Eligible participants will only be responsible for paying a $10 co-pay for their exam.
To qualify, you must be:
- 18 years old or older
- Eligible to receive services at PUSH (enrolled Purdue student).
- Low income
- Without insurance coverage or insurance that does not cover wellness visits.
