Director of Lifelong Learning: Marti Burns
Meet the New Director of Lifelong Learning Programs
Marti Burns is joining the Purdue Veterinary Medicine family as the new director of the Office of Lifelong Learning. Marti comes to the School with an extensive background in conferencing, events and educational programming. She has developed both on-site and on-line educational programs for a variety of audiences, including P-12 students and their teachers, undergraduate and graduate students, and professionals. Her previous work experience includes both academia and industry, through positions she has held at Purdue University, Eli Lilly & Co and Procter & Gamble. Marti brings a wealth of ideas to grow the School’s lifelong learning programs. Just this week, she attended a conference in Chicago on social media & marketing tools.
On a personal note, Marti and her husband Eric have four children, Alex, Stewart, Sarah, and Christian, and two pets. Stella is a six-year-old border collie mix adopted from the Clinton County Humane Society and Figaro is a 14-year-old cat adopted from the Almost Home Humane Society. About four years ago, Figaro was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and came to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital for radioactive iodine therapy. Sarah and her junior high friends held a "Save Figaro" garage sale to help offset the costs. The Burns family reports that Figaro received excellent care and was completely cured. A very active pet, Figaro is the “brains” of the Burns' pet contingent as he consistently outwits Stella.
Marti looks forward to working with everyone to implement the School’s strategic plan goals for lifelong learning. Marti began on on Feb. 1st, 2011. Her office is Lynn 1200.
