Award Nomination Information
The Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine celebrates the success of our students, staff, and faculty. The Office of Engagement would like to congratulate our award recipients and encourage you to nominate individuals, teams, and projects for internal, university, and external awards. To assist in the nomination process, this section of our website describes various awards and nomination information.

Purpose: To honor faculty of the School of Veterinary Medicine with consistent dedication and excellence in teaching and education of veterinary students, veterinary technology students, medical students, undergraduate and graduate students, interns and residents who have positively impacted students and faculty.
Eligibility: All SVM faculty members who have been involved in teaching and education of veterinary students, veterinary technology students, medical students, undergraduate and graduate students, interns, and residents in the School of Veterinary Medicine are eligible. Recipients of the award shall be ineligible for reconsideration for the following 5 years.
Criteria for selection: The faculty member should have demonstrated excellence in teaching at Purdue School of Veterinary Medicine as evidenced by: creative endeavor for improving methods of imparting knowledge and improving the process of learning; having a positive impact on students; and helping other faculty and/or staff to become better teachers. The faculty member should have demonstrated sustained service to the School of Veterinary Medicine through participation in committees, meetings, support of School programs etc.
Nomination Document: The nomination document should not exceed 6 pages with no smaller than 12-point font and no less than 1-inch margins. The nomination document should include all of the following:
a. A narrative explaining the evidence of teaching excellence
b. A summary the nominee’s teaching assignments for the past 5 years
c. A summary of student and peer teaching evaluations
d. Scholarship of teaching and learning
e. Leadership activities related to teaching
f. Teaching-related honors and awards
g. Involvement in extracurricular student activities.
The nominee’s Curriculum Vitae should be submitted with the nomination (not
included in the 6 page limit).
Nominations are due in the Office of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs by
the end of January of each year.
Purpose: To honor faculty at the School of Veterinary Medicine who have demonstrated dedication and excellence in research.
Eligibility: All SVM faculty members who have been involved in research activities in the School of Veterinary Medicine shall be eligible. Recipients of the award shall be ineligible for reconsideration for the following 5 years.
Criteria for selection: The faculty member should have demonstrated research excellence as evidenced by: development and maintenance of an extramurally funded research program; number and quality of peer-reviewed publications; impact as indicated by citations; invitations to national and international meetings; invitations to review grants and manuscripts; and editorial board functions; and effectiveness in training graduate students and post-docs. The faculty member should have demonstrated sustained service to the School of Veterinary Medicine through participation in committees and meetings, and support of the School’s programs in teaching, research, and engagement.
Nomination document: The nomination document should not exceed 4 pages, no smaller than 12 pt. font, and no less than 1 inch margins. The nomination document should contain all of the following components:
a. Description of the quality and importance of the research program.
b. Summary of scholarship activities related to research.
c. Documentation of the impact of the research.
d. Documentation of success in training students and post-docs.
A copy of the nominee’s curriculum vitae (not restricted to the page limit) should be included.
Nominations will be due in the Office of Research by the end of January of each year.
Purpose: To honor faculty at the School of Veterinary Medicine who have demonstrated dedication and excellence in scholarly engagement endeavors that have impacted School of Veterinary Medicine constituents by addressing a community, professional, and/or societal need.
Eligibility: All SVM faculty members who have been involved in scholarly engagement activities in the School of Veterinary Medicine. Recipients of the award shall be ineligible for reconsideration for the following 5 years.
Criteria for Selection: The engagement endeavor must involve the nominee’s area of professional expertise. The engagement endeavor should be consistent with Purdue University and School of Veterinary Medicine strategic engagement goals, including but not limited to: Diversity Initiatives; Distance Learning; Economic Development; Extension; Global Initiatives; Lifelong Learning; P-12 Education; Quality of Life for Constituents [people and animals]; and Service Learning and Experiential Learning.
Nomination Document: The nomination document should not exceed 4 pages, no smaller than 12 point font, and no less than 1” margins. The nomination should contain all of the following components:
a. Description of how the faculty member addressed a need communicated by a School of Veterinary Medicine stakeholder, the veterinary medical profession, the community, or society.
b. Documentation of scholarship activities related to engagement (i.e. presentations, publications, participation by stakeholders in activities, funding garnered, patents, new courses and programs developed, awards).
c. Description/documentation of how the engagement endeavor has demonstrated or is expected to have short term (generation of new knowledge); intermediate term (change in behavior or practice); and long term (promotion of the public good) impact on the veterinary medical profession, community, or society.
d. A description of the mutual benefits of partnerships developed as a result of this engagement endeavor.
e. At least two external letters of support for the nomination in addition to the nomination letter [Not included in page limit]
f. An copy of the nominee’s curriculum vitae [Not included in page limit]
Nominations will be due in the Office of Engagement by the end of January of each year.
Purpose: To honor our faculty and staff veterinarians for their distinguished service efforts.
Nomination: Nomination letters for the award should include the name of the nominee, the service unit, and a description (no more than 1 page) of the exceptional services provided by this individual. The exceptional service must be delivered through the PUSVM or ADDL and not as a private consultant.
Nominations are due by February 1, 2010 to the Office of Engagement
