Monday – October 4: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

    Boiler Green Initiative presents all the information you ever wanted to know about sustainability at Purdue. BGI has partnered with Physical Facilities to provide information on reduce, reuse, recycle; water; transportation; energy; and global sustainability.
  • Free Coffee in Your Reusable Mug
    Free coffee (16 oz or less) will be offered at Urban Market, Pappy's, Flatbreads and Oasis in the Purdue Memorial Union, if you bring in a reusable mug.
  • Plastic Bag Monster

Tuesday – October 5: Water

  • University Residences Power Shower Challenge
    Challenges residences (and other Purdue affiliates too) to take a three minute shower.

  • Schleman Hall Green Roof Tours
    10:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
    The first green roof at Purdue, this project is the result of a unique collaboration between students (the Boiler Green Initiative), Physical Facilities staff, and State Farm (who gave BGI a grant for the roof).

  • Dining Courts highlight locally purchased food

  • Free refills in the UR reusable bottle in all retail operations and On-the-Go!

  • Water Walk View the map.
    All day
    Check installed green features around campus such as the retention area under the football practice fields and the bioswale near Pao. Look for A-Frames signaling key areas!
  • Purdue River Clean Up
    3-6:30 p.m.
    Join us to celebrate all things water as part of Purdue University's Green Week. Volunteer to help clean up the Wabash River as part of Boiler Green Initiative and Tippecanoe County Partnership for Water Quality's efforts to beautify the Wabash River.

    Participation is limited to the first 50 volunteers. Sign up online. We will meet at Tapawingo Park in West Lafayette at the skate park. Please look for the registration table. Gloves and bags will be provided. Now all we need is YOU!

Wednesday – October 6: Transportation

  • Alternatively Powered and Fueled Vehicle Show
    11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
    Stewart Center Bike Lane on Oval Drive
    Fabulous entries include a solar motorcycle, a bevy of electric cars, hybrid bus/delivery trucks and even a vehicular couch. Free bicycle tune-ups will be provided, courtesy of Boiler Green Initiative (BGI).  Additionally, there will be a booth promoting BoilerRide, a carpooling software for daily use and even those random trips to the IND airport.
  • “Does life evolve differently in the sea?” presented by Rick Grosberg View poster

    Rick Grosberg, UC Davis, will discuss differences in the evolution of biological diversity in the terrestrial and marine realms.

Thursday – October 7: Energy

  • University Residences Energy Competition
    Several halls will be competing to see which hall is the best at conserving energy. A 2-week competition will put one hall on top of the energy conservation hill. Awards will be presented on Campus Sustainability Day, October 20th. www.housing.purdue.edu/sustainability
  • Power Down Hour
    12-1 p.m.
    Campus-wide
    Join in as everyone on campus shuts down non-essential electronic for an hour to see the impact that our energy use has.

    Dr. Arun Majumdar, the first Director of the Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy (ARPA-E), the country’s only agency devoted to transformational energy research and development.
  • Tours of West Lafayette WWTP Digester
    9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
    West Lafayette Waste Water Treatment Plant, 500 South River Rd
    Tour the anaerobic digesters at WLWWTP, where Purdue's food waste is turned into gas to fuel electricity generation.
