BGI Recycling Day at Ross-Ade Stadium collects 2,200 pounds of recyclables
On Saturday November 10, 2007, 25 members of the Boiler Green Initiative along with some of their family and friends went through Ross-Ade stadium after the Purdue-Michigan State football game to collect recyclable plastic waste. BGI filled approximately 40 large trash bags, which weighed in at 1,000 pounds.
Before the game, the volunteers also walked around and distributed clear plastic bags to interested tailgaters for their recyclables (one bag for glass and one for plastic). They covered the tailgating lots north of the stadium, at the golf course, and on Slayter Hill. After the game was over these bags were collected,
which yielded 1,200 pounds of aluminum and glass.
Amelie Davis of the Boiler Green Initiative stated afterward, "We want to thank Purdue Athletics and the Recycling Department for helping us organize and carry through such a project. We look forward to expanding recycling at football events next season and even possibly at basketball games this semester."
