IT CONSULTANT - ITC Strategic Plan

Responsibilities
Information Technology Consulting is responsible for the successful initiation and completion of complex administrative computing projects. These projects provide a product or service at no cost, to a specified scope, and in a timeframe agreed upon with the Executive Sponsors.
Within the framework of a typical project Information Technology Consulting will oversee and manage the following activities:
- Manage the project activities for feasibility studies time and cost estimates
- Development or implementation of a new or revised system:
- Develop a charter that documents the work effort to be undertaken
- Formulate project scope and objective statement
- Identify the approach and deliverables
- Develop and manage a project plan to ensure timely completion of the project
- Assign resources to work efforts
- Identify training needs for project staff
- Provide day to day direction for the project staff
- Direct the work of consultants assigned to the project or work group
- Provide quality assurance for product and process
- Act as the primary internal and customer contact for the project or workgroup
- Understand and communicate the priorities for the project track, the project's service requests, problems, and issues
- Report status, progress and issues to SSTA and/or customer management
- Assist in determining software and hardware requirements
- Assure that everyone is trained and prepared to operate and maintain the system
- Participate in establishing and managing service level agreements for your primary systems and customers
- Manage project staff (as needed), set expectations for assigned staff, review and evaluate the work of assigned staff, prepare annual performance appraisals and identify training needs for staff
- Assure that the appropriate communications and coordination takes place with all areas of SSTA and VPIT.
- Provide timely communications to the work group to insure that they are well informed
- Develop service level agreements For other consulting activities,
- Apply standard techniques and methodologies used at Purdue University
- Use the expertise of others when needed
- Develop charters for large projects, and statement of understanding memos for smaller projects for signoff by all parties
- For larger projects, develop and maintain project schedule
Priorities
- Develop an IT plan for the Division of Recreational Sports
- Develop a Document Imaging Plan for Student Services
- Assist in defining and clarifying the role of Information Technology in determining departmental/university-wide business practices
- In conjunction with the Director of SSTA develop a marketing plan of the services that are provided within Student Services Technology & Assessment and educate Student Services departments of the services that are available
- Assess and define future consulting needs within Student Services and develop advisory committee to set priorities with ITC and evaluate time lines and future staffing needs
GOALS
Goal 1: Assist SSTA supported departments in achieving the Strategic Plan of Purdue University
Strategies
- Facilitate accurate and timely communication to achieve unique goals of each department
- Provide a consistent avenue for technological growth that will consider the overall goals of Student Services and Purdue University
- Provide a collaborative effort that will draw upon the most effective resources that are available at Purdue University

Goal 2: Coordinate the development of an integrated IT plan for the Division of Recreational Sports
Strategies
- Define processes

- Develop a fully inclusive evaluation summation of the sports management systems in the market

Goal 3: Support an effective rollout of document imaging in Student Services
Strategies
- Serve as representative for Student Services for documents imaging development with OVPIT
- Serve as Project Coordinator for document imaging pilot
- Structure a document imaging solution for Student Services
- Define policies and procedures of operation
- Construct a funding solution for long term implementation

Goal 4: Clarifying the role of Information Technology
Strategies
- Determining departmental needs for defining their technological requirements for the future
- Assist in the university-wide business practices and how technology will influences these practices
- Actively identify departments in need of improvements and develop a strategic plan for increasing their knowledge and productivity through technology

- Annual assessment of user awareness and satisfaction
Goal 5: Develop a marketing plan of the services that are provided within Student Services Technology & Assessment
Strategies
- Educate Student Services departments of the services that are available within SSTA
- Inform SSTA constituents of where to go for what service
- Conduct information seminars at departmental staff meetings
- Solicit and promote a cohesive understanding of what SSTA can do for an individual department
- Structure a referral network within SSTA
- Inform SSTA staff of all services within SSTA

Goal 6: Communicate Services of IT Consultant
Strategies
- Assess and define future consulting needs within Student Services
