Spring Fling Events

This year’s Spring Fling will host some traditional favorites and will highlight some new additions! Join us on May 25th to see what's happening!

Information Table

Where: Gym #4, CREC
When: 11:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.

Not sure where to go?  Staff will be available to guide you to your event. You can also drop off non-perishable food drive items for the food drive here!

Lunch

Where: Gym #5, CREC
When: 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m.

Tease your taste buds with a tantalizing turkey and cojack / or ham and swiss / or a vegetarian sandwich, chips, pretzels, carrots, trail mix, apples, and ice cream. Bottled water and soft drinks will also be available.  For those employees still hard at work on the job, carry out orders will be available at the back dock of Meredith Hall. Orders will be taken May 15-19, between the hours of 7am to 3pm, at 494-7166. Walk-in orders will not be accepted.

ZERO Waste

The Spring Fling coordinating committee continues to sponsor Purdue's Zero Waste program.  We will continue our part by offering products in recyclable packaging and providing containers for the compostable waste.  We ask that everyone do their part by utilizing the proper containers. Together we can make Spring Fling 2017 another ZERO WASTE event!

Volunteer Opportunities

Where: Gym #4, CREC
When: 11:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.

You can volunteer to help with Spring Fling 2017 by registering online OR by completing the Volunteer Registration form in your registration packet. By registering as a volunteer, you will receive three (3) additional entries for the door prizes! Deadline is May 12.

Classic Vehicle Show

Where: Tarkington Hall Parking Lot
When: 11:30 a.m.–2:00 p.m.

Open-class show of antique, classic, and show cars, trucks, motorcycles, and other vehicles owned by Purdue faculty, staff, & retirees.

To help this event be a success, exhibitors should remember:

  • Information placards about the vehicle will be provided.
  • Purdue assumes no responsibility for theft of or damage to exhibit items.

Register online or by completing the form in your registration packet by May 12.

Golf Outing

Sign up to play the Kampen or Akerman-Allen courses for $30. This special rate includes 18 holes walking, with the option of riding at a discounted cart rate of $10.

When: Tee times begin at 11:30 a.m. on May 25.
How: Tee times will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Your Purdue Staff ID will be checked when you register at the Dye Clubhouse.
Registration: Please call 494-3139, ext. 1 to reserve your tee time. Online reservations will not work for this event. Call to make your reservations soon because times fill up quickly!

Fitness Walk

Where: Gym #3, CREC
When: Start between 11:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. No starters after 2:00 p.m. 

Finish any time before 3:30 p.m. The walk will only be cancelled if there is a severe storm. An approximately three mile, non-competitive walking event. Walk may include some elevation and/or steps.

Register online or complete and return the registration form. No sign-ups will be accepted by phone or e-mail, or on the day of the event.  Deadline is May 12.

Free play and non-registration events

Disc Golf

Where:  Bottom of Slayter Hill
When: 1:00-4:30 p.m.

Bring your own discs or the Corec has discs available for renWhether you've been playing for a while, or are looking for something new to try - disc golf is becoming one of the greatest lifetime fitness sports available. Disc golf is played much like traditional golf, however, players use a flying disc rather than a ball and clubs. If you're interested in playing, meet at the bottom of Slayter Hill at 1:00p.m. on May 25 for some basic disc golf information, and to get started.

Zumba and Yoga

Where: Multipurpose Room #5, CREC
When:  Zumba is from 12:00-1:00 and Yoga is from 1:00-2:00

You'll want to join in this musical exercise program where Latin style dance moves are incorporated into high-energy aerobic training that keeps participants coming back!

Yoga is about creating balance in the body through developing strength and flexibility.  Come see what yoga is all about!

Tour with City Bus

Where: NW Corner of Martin Jischke & Third Streets
When: 11:30 a.m.–2:00 p.m.


Where did the name Boilermakers originate? How many students were enrolled when Purdue opened? Why was the John Purdue statue placed across from University Hall? Learn the answers to these questions and more by riding the Spring Fling “Tour Campus with CityBus”! Tour runs every 30 minutes. Last tour starts at 1:30 pm.

Bingo

Where: Lower Gym, CREC
When: 12:00 p.m.–2:00 p.m.

Come and play this game of chance and make it an extra special day by winning some great prizes for getting "Bingo"!

Yard Games

Where:
Rankin Field
When:  11:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

If you're looking for a game that doesn't require a lot of pain and strain, join a game of Corn Hole, Ladder Golf, or Washers with your friends and co-workers!

PURA - Purdue University Retirees Association

Where: North Drive CREC
When: 11:30 a.m.–3:00 p.m.

Think you're ready for retirement? Stop by and speak to PURA representatives about what you should be doing now.

 FOOD DRIVE for the Food Finders Food Bank

Where:Drop-off barrels will be located next to the Newstand in Stewart Center, and around the corner from Starbucks two weeks prior to Spring Fling; bring perishables by anytime!  On event day, look for specially marked food barrels next to the information table
When: May 8 - May 19 at the Stewart Center Newstand and just around the corner from Starbucks in the PMU
           
 May 25 at the Information TAble in Gym 4 at the Co-Rec.

The Spring Fling coordinating committee is asking everyone to bring at least one non-perishable item with them to Spring Fling.  Food Finders Food Bank is the largest non-profit food provider in mid-north Indiana, and each year, the Food Finders Food Bank works with 120 agencies in 16 Indiana counties; 66 of those agencies are right here in Tippecanoe County.

To be eligible, bring your Spring Fling invitation and deposit it in the drawing boxes located at the Information Table by 2:00 p.m. on May 25.  Winners will be notified via email or phone on May 26.  A listing of winners will be available on this site.
