Data Confidentiality

The University recognizes administrative information as a University asset. Information requires protection against unauthorized destruction, modification, and disclosure. Protection mechanisms, regardless of whether they are manual or automated, require the use of University resources.

All information is not of equal value. For instance, it is foolish to spend great resources protecting information that the University makes generally available to the public. The data classification categories and the data handling matrix are to guide the effective use of University resources.

The Information Owners, in conjunction with Data Stewards, have established the data classifications and data handling matrixes. Because technology is evolving, these matrixes are "evolving documents'.
