• Fake HR Address Verification Email

  Phishing attempt to get staff to click on link to update or verify home address for future W-2 tax statement mailings.

• ITaP Security and Policy Warns of Targeted Spear Phishing Attack

  ITaP Security and Policy warns the Purdue community that the University has been specifically targeted by spear phishing attacks involving malicious PDF attachments. The attacker's attempt to trick users into opening an infected PDF in order to compromise a system. These compromised systems are then used as launching pads to perform further compromises of Purdue computer systems and network reconnaissance.

• Fake ACH Bank Transfer Email

  Fake ACH Bank Transfer Canceled email hitting Purdue email addresses. This is a phishing attempt.

• Data Handling Resources Available

  The Purdue University Data Stewards Organization has created an Educational Resources webpage. The webpage features new and revised data handling training resources.

• Fake Exchange E-Mail Notice Circulating

  A convincingly crafted e-mail has been seen circulating campus that warns that your e-mail account has been compromised and you should click a link to verify that you are the owner. Remember, Don't Just Click It! You will be led to a site that will attempt to deploy malware to your system.

• Beginning of School Year Targeted Phishing Scams

  ITaP Networks and Security warns the Purdue community to be wary of targeted phishing scams at the beginning of the school year. The e-mails appear to come from Purdue University and its various administrative departments (such as the "Purdue Webmail Team," "Purdue Management Team," or "Purdue Support Team") and units. Many of these e-mails direct users to navigate to a specific URL and then enter personally identifiable information such as their Purdue University user name and passwords.

  ITaP's Video and Multimedia Production Services (VMPS) group won a 2010 Bronze Telly Award for cybersecurity awareness video on password protection (called "Keep Romance Alive").
