STEAM-CIRT Summary & Trends for November 2007

November 2007 Summary and Trends

The STEAM-CIRT saw a significant decrease of 34% in the total number of events reported in November compared to October. Investigable events also experienced a slight decline of 1% from October. Furthermore, classified incidents dropped by 13%. Compared to the same month last year, classified IT incidents are 41% higher. Several factors can be attributed to the increase of incident numbers: storm worm variant propagation, continued IRC Bot activity, copyright infringement notices, and the STEAM-CIRT’s ability to detect malware and other malicious behavior.
