STEAM-CIRT Summary & Trends for August 2007

August 2007 Summary and Trends

The total number of events reported to the STEAM-CIRT remained relatively stable in August compared to July, decreasing by 2%. Investigable events also experienced a decrease of 2% compared to July. However, classified incidents dropped by 28%. Compared to the same month last year, classified IT incidents have risen by 55%. This rise in incident numbers can be attributed to the surge of storm worm activity seen around the Internet as well as enhancements in IRC Bot and storm worm detection capabilities within the STEAM-CIRT.
