The total number of events reported to the STEAM-CIRT increased in September compared to August by nearly 45%. Investigable events also experienced an increase of 45% compared to August. Additionally, classified incidents rose by nearly 64%. Compared to the same month last year, classified IT incidents are 121% higher. This substantial rise in incident numbers can be attributed to the continued storm worm activity seen around the Internet as well as enhancements in IRC Bot and storm worm detection capabilities within the STEAM-CIRT. Most notably, however, is the inclusion of 47 copyright violation pre-settlement letters submitted to the STEAM-CIRT. Future incidents of copyright violation notices will be classified as abuse, representing a violation of Purdue policy.
