ITaP Networks and Security is warning the Purdue community about reports of a targeted e-mail scam alleging to be from the "webmaster" of Purdue University. This scam appears to be directed currently at organizations that are closely affiliated with Purdue. It is possible, however, that the current scam will be directed toward individuals affiliated with Purdue University as well.
The email scam states that Purdue University is changing its domain name and urges recipient organizations to update their web links for Purdue University. The URL referenced in the scam email points to a fraudulent Purdue home page.
Purdue University is not changing its domain name or home page URL and is not becoming a “.com” site. ITaP Networks and Security recommends that users immediately delete these emails and to not reply or take the action requested in the email. These are targeted e-mail phishing scams that attempt to fraudulently acquire information about Purdue University by masquerading as an authoritative Purdue department or unit.
