Monthly Summary and Trends February 2008
The STEAM-CIRT saw an increase of 33% in the total number of events reported in February compared to January. Investigable events also increased of 22% over January. Furthermore, classified incidents increased by 11%. Compared to the same month last year, classified IT incidents are nearly 86% higher. The major contributing factor causing the increase can be attributed to the multiple rounds of password phishing emails being targeted at the Purdue user community, and the fraction of people who responded.
In January, the STEAM-CIRT posted to the handler’s log about the following issues:
Symantec Backup Exec calendar control vulnerabilities discovered.
New unpatched vulnerability in VMware products found
