Warning Regarding Possible Issues with McAfee AntiVirus Engine Series 5000
For VirusScan 8.x functionality, ALL VirusScan 8.x with Patch 10 installations also require that users download and install Patch 11.
Patch 11 is necessary because McAfee’s latest AntiVirus Scaning Engine, the Series 5000, will be available in April 2006 and will be pushed to users of VirusScan as a super .dat via McAfee’s Auto Update process. The Scanning Engine forms the core malware detection and repair component of many McAfee Anti-Virus Products. The new, Series 5000 Engine contains new features, better scanning performance, and greater stability.
During testing, McAfee has observed a scenario whereby Series 5000 Engine updates for VirusScan Enterprise version 8.0i can experience unexpected delays. As such, users must install either VirusScan Enterprise version 8.0i Patch 11 or the forthcoming VirusScan Enterprise version 8.0i Patch 12 (available in late March or early April 2006) prior to updating to the Series 5000 Engine (which will automatically update for many users in April 2006).
Immediate installation of Patch 11 is cruicial to avoiding updating delays caused by the Series 5000 update engine.
Again, installing either Patch 11 or Patch 12 will ensure a successful Series 5000 Engine update independent of the above conditions.
