Parents Program Activities
  • Back to College: With a simple application process, parents themselves can take courses at a community college, IUPUI, or a technical institute. Parents are able to choose the classes they wish to take, but must provide an explanation about how the classes contribute to their own personal growth and their ability to engage in their child’s education. Tuition, childcare, and tutoring are provided.
  • Camps: An integral part of Science Bound is each student’s participation in a summer camp on the West Lafayette Campus. Parents are invited to attend for a day or two during their child’s stay.
  • Awareness Groups: Topic orientated, these bimonthly support meetings investigate the various needs of parents and provide guest speakers, group and family activities, childcare, and supporting material for the future success of each Science Bound family member.
  • Parent and Children Support Groups: Science Bound parents and children participate together in several activities designed around the needs of the parents. Activities will be based on the best practices of operating programs around the country.
  • Weekend Retreat: Parents and children also participate in an annual weekend retreat at a camp near Lafayette or Indianapolis.
  • Indiana Web Academy: Through a program designed by the IWA, parent-child teams build their own computer to take home.
