BGR Activities and Events

To give you a feel for BGR, we have included descriptions of a few of the activities & events that occur throughout the week. In order to gain the best experience, BGR participants are expected to attend all events and participate in all activities.

Campus Tours:

Take a personal, guided tour led by one of Purdue's orientation leaders which highlights the location of your own classes and offers priceless student information such as computer lab locations, the best places to study, and more.

Social Events:

Experience a night at the Union, complete with free food, music, games, and an all time favorite dance-off competition! You'll also get pumped at the Recreational Sports Center (RSC) with numerous team competitions, swimming, volleyball, basketball, and more! BGR also offers a bus trip to a local store that's full of student discounts and fun giveaways!

Academic picnic:

Eat lunch with other students in your major, learn more information about your college, and get a change to speak with faculty and staff in your area of study. The picnic is located on Memorial Mall, the oldest part of Purdue's campus.

Boilermaker Pride:

Gather at Slayter Hill, which features the Purdue tailgate and famous pre-game show, to learn "Hail Purdue," our fight song, and gear up for Big Ten athletics with the cheerleaders, band, and Boilermaker Special. Past guests have included Big Ten Football Champion Coach Danny Hope and Big Ten Women's Basketball Coach Sharon Versyp!

F r e e  Zone:

A diversity awareness program developed by current students that not only helps students become more aware of who they are as individuals, but also helps them apprecaite and value the differences around them!

Speaker Presentations:

Throughout the week, several guest speakers will perform in Purdue's Elliot Hall of Music. Past presenters ranged from the inspirational story of Bernie McGrenahan, to the hot dance moves of Judson Laipply, and we can't forget the downright hilarious Buzz Sutherland who has kept us laughing all night. Students will get a chance to talk with the Purdue Police and Fire Departments about how to stay safe on campus. You'll also hear from campus organizations such as Diversikey, the Latino Cultural Center (LCC), and the Panhellenic Assocaition.
University Resource Fair:
Find out what resources are available to you on Purdue's campus by attending the University Resource Fair! Each office or resource will have a table set up during the Academic Picnic, which may include Purdue University Libraries and PUSH.

Activities and Business Fair:

Learn about Purdue's diverse clubs and organizations which will be gathered in one place to help you get involved both on and off campus. In the past we've welcomed several Greek organizations, the Purdue Crew team, Science Club, Medieval Team, and Purdue Student Government. Also, you can become familiar with tons of local businesses just waiting to give you free stuff! (We know you love free stuff, right?!?)

Interest Sessions:

Choose whether to acquire some college study tips, discover more in depth information about a college organization, learn how to use the CityBus, or more in these information sessions.

REACTION sessions:

Led by your Team Leader, you'll discuss Purdue and the benefits and challenges it presents. You'll also get to know yourself and your team of 10-15 other new students during this time, and, most of all, have FUN!
