Purdue retirees are pacesetters again this year for the annual Purdue and community United Way campaigns.

As pacesetters, retirees will conduct their portion of the campaign before the regular campaign gets under way at the West Lafayette campus.

Purdue United Way sent a mailing to retirees the week of Aug. 3-8. The retirees' goal for this year is $84,000.

Purdue will kick off its 2009 United Way campaign on Sept. 15 with the theme of  "United starts with U." The overall Purdue goal this year will be $730,000.

Chair for the retirees portion of the United Way campaign is Lois Wark. Vice chair is Chris Johannsen.
