Due to an increase in volume of protocol submissions for review, we can no longer guarantee a 10-business day turnaround time for exempt and expedited protocol reviews (e.g., new applications, responses to requests for information, revision requests, continuing review requests, etc.). We will always strive to minimize the turnaround time and do want to remain accessible to researchers. Thus, to help office staff conduct reviews in a more timely manner, we have implemented the walk-in hours stated below for those researchers and students seeking guidance from our protocol review coordinators. Of course appointments can be scheduled at other times by calling our office at 765-494-5942. We will continue to do our best to accommodate all reasonable rush requests since we anticipate they will be infrequent.
Monday 9:30 am – 11:30 am
Tuesday 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Thursday 9:30 am – 11:30 am
The Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) has replaced the previous Research Exemption Request Form with forms specific to each of the 6 categories of exemption (except category 5). It is our belief that the new forms will help to reduce overall review times for exemption requests because the new forms elicit information that was frequently lacking when the previous version of the form was used.
The HRPP is allowing for a transition period and will accept either version (the previous exemption request form or the current forms) through Friday, January 30, 2009. On Monday, February 2, 2009 the HRPP will only accept the current versions of the Exemption Request forms. At that time, any previous versions of the form that are received by our office will not be reviewed and will be returned to the principal investigator with a request to submit one of the current forms.
Effective immediately the Education Policy for Conducting Human Subjects Research has changed as follows:
Some of you may have received notice from CITI that you are required to take the CITI Refresher Course in order to maintain your certification. These notices are being sent to all who took the training prior to January 2006 when the Education Policy required the refresher course be taken every three (3) years.
Effective July 1, 2006, all IRB applications must be submitted through IPFW's Office of Research, and not directly to the IRB. The IRB will not act on any application from IPFW staff without ORES endorsement. Questions regarding this requirement should be directed to Pat Farrell, 260-481-6164
All protocols and requests for revision of protocols for the West Lafayette campus only must be given to Sue Phebus who will forward them to the IRB. This includes exempt, expedited, and full review protocols whether or not they are using Psych 120 participants. Questions should be directed to Sue Phebus, 765-494-6945.
