Nomination submission deadline extended to February 25, 2013.
The Purdue University Research and Scholarship Distinction Award is an annual award intended for faculty whose recent research or scholarship has made a major impact on their field and who are not eligible for the McCoy Award, which is limited to research in the natural sciences. Therefore, an individual cannot be nominated for both the Herbert Newby McCoy Award and the Purdue University Research and Scholarship Distinction Award.
Faculty in all disciplines except the natural sciences whose research has made a recent major impact in their field are eligible to be nominated for the Research and Scholarship Distinction Award. Past McCoy winners are not eligible for nomination. The Research and Scholarship Distinction Award is intended to honor recent past achievement(s) of major impact; the award is not a “lifetime achievement” award.
It is important to note that letters from Purdue colleagues are valuable; however, letters from individuals not part of the Purdue community usually provide a better reflection of the impact of the nominee’s contribution to their field. The selection committee places significant weight on the letters of support. Please include a brief statement of the author’s expertise and relationship, if any to the nominee when submitting supporting letters from individuals outside Purdue.
To assist the selection committees in understanding the impact and significance of the nominee’s work, nominators (or their representatives) may be invited to make a brief (10-15 minute) presentation and answer questions during the selection committee meetings. This presentation is important in the selection process as it allows committee members to more fully understand the impact of the work. The presentation schedule will be developed after all nominations have been received.
Nomination packets should be submitted electronically to Sherri Neibert by Monday, February 25, 2013. Nominations may be made by any member of the University. The nomination should include:
