Edward J. Basgall, Ph.D. Microscopy Manager Drexel University College of Engineering Philadelphia, PA

Dr. Ed Basgall is a candidate for the position of Director, Life Science Microscopy Facility, in the College of Agriculture

Dr. Basgall received a B.S in Microbiology and a PhD in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Illinois, Urbana IL. He started his career in microscopy as a Teaching Assistant/Visiting Lecturer at the University of Illinois, Center for Electron Microscopy. He went on to direct the Electron Microscopy Facility at the University of Illinois, College of Veterinary Medicine and the Medical College of Georgia, School of Medicine. He has also been a Senior Microscopist at the Advanced Microscopy Facility at the University of Massachusetts, a Research Associate in the Department of Chemistry at Pennsylvania State University, and an Applications Specialist for Carl Zeiss (FESEM/SEM/FIB). Dr. Basgall has extensive multidisciplinary analytical microscopy research and service laboratory experience with FESEM, SEM, EDS, EBSD, ESEM, cryo-SEM, FIB/SEM, Cryo/FIB/SEM, and biological TEM. In addition, he has experience in fluorescence, confocal-laser, brightfield, darkfield, DIC(Nomarski), and AFM and related surface analytical techniques.

The purpose of the open forum is for users of the Life Science Microscopy Facility to come and meet Dr. Basgall, hear about his experience and approach to operating a shared instrumentation facility, and also ask questions related to their own area of research.
