Vision and Goals

The Solar Economy IGERT (SEIGERT) is a collaboration among three U.S. academic institutions, one institution abroad, two U.S. national laboratories, and four companies to form an integrated graduate education and training program that will provide the human resources needed to ensure U.S. competitiveness in the energy sector of the future. The major academic partners are Purdue University (PU, lead), the University of Delaware (UD), and the University of Texas El Paso (UTEP).

Vision

• Prepare for a fossil fuel-deprived world where nearly all energy demands are met sustainably by solar energy resources

Goals

• Educate and train a diverse spectrum of IGERT Fellows to become researchers, teachers, leaders, and entrepreneurs who have an interdisciplinary systems-level understanding of the complexities and constraints of an evolving energy economy.
• Educate and train IGERT Fellows in the art and science of generating superior integrative concepts/solutions for a future solar economy.
• Develop and deploy lectures, course modules, laboratory modules, and systems models online to enable a broad impact of the new educational paradigm and tools developed by the program.
