  • Applications sought for global food security research grants

    Applications are being accepted for U.S. Borlaug Fellows in Global Food Security Graduate Research Grants. Deadline is Nov, 10. The U.S. Borlaug Fellows in Global Food Security Graduate Research Grant supports exceptional graduate students who are interested in developing a component of their graduate research in a developing country setting and in collaboration with a mentor from an International Agricultural Research Center (IARC) or a qualifying National Agricultural Research System (NARS) unit. The grants are managed by Purdue's Center for Global Food Security, which has awarded 81 grants totaling more than $1,521,000 since 2012. Fellows have come from 56 different universities and have completed research in food security topics in more than 64 different countries.

  • Purdue ag economist: Retail pork prices still rising; relief expected in fall

    Retail pork prices will keep rising to record highs this summer as the number of hogs going to market over the next several months will be lower than expected because of the PED virus, smaller spring farrowings and growing foreign purchases of U.S. pork, Purdue University agricultural economist Chris Hurt says.

  • Purdue gets funding for commercializing PICS bags in Africa

    Purdue University is receiving a $10 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to develop a program that will put the crop-saving PICS bags into the hands of more farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa countries to improve their food security and income.
