Climbing Workshops & Training - Fall 2017

We offer several different learning opportunities for climbers of all experience levels.

All Recreation & Wellness members age 16 and over are eligible to participate in any of our workshops. To register for one of our workshops, please visit the Climbing Wall office during staffed hours or the Member Services Desk during all hours the CoRec is open. You must register for a workshop at least 24 hours in advance (except Intro to Climbing, which requires one week in advance registration). Any workshop may be canceled due to lack of participation. Please arrive 10–15 minutes prior to the start time of the workshop.  If you have any questions regarding the workshops below, please contact Traves Freeland at traves@purdue.edu.

Top-Rope Belaying

Tired of waiting in line for a staff member to belay you at the top rope wall?  Grab a friend and learn how to belay each other!  This workshop will teach participants the essential skills to climb and belay including, but not limited to: climbing technique and terminology, equipment inspection and usage, proper knot tying, safety commands, and belay technique. Participants are first shown these techniques and then allowed to practice under the supervision of an instructor. Participants must complete the Top-Rope Belay Workshop and wait at least 24 hours before taking the associated competency exam.
