Body Composition Assessment

Our fitness supervisors are now trained and equipped to offer free body composition assessments at the Tarkington Fitness Center. No need to set up an appointment, just stop by and let the supervisor at the door know you are interested.

We use a bioelectric impedance analysis system to estimate your body fat percentage. This method relies heavily on following a consistent hydration protocol prior to taking the test. If the hydration protocol is followed, it has similar levels of accuracy to skinfold measurements, while greatly reducing chance of human error.

For best results, please observe this protocol prior to this test:

  • Do not drink alcohol for 48 hours
  • Avoid moderate/vigorous exercise for 12 hours
  • Avoid eating, drinking or smoking for 4 hours
  • Empty bladder 30 minutes before the test

Please limit your assessments to a maximum of once per month. This method is not accurate enough to track daily changes.
