Spring 2015 Wellness Workshops
All workshops are free; no registration required. Please dress in loose, comfortable clothing; socks or bare feet are acceptable. All required equipment will be provided.

January 28: BACK BENDING FOR BEGINNERS
In this class, we will explore the benefits to proper back-bending techniques. Students will learn how to correctly warm-up, flow through a series of back bends, and properly cool-down, in order to ensure a safe and effective back-bending asana practice. Students will leave the class feeling refreshed and informed.
February 11: Couples Massage
Bring a friend or significant other and learn effective massage techniques to alleviate tension, enhance relaxation and increase range of motion. This workshop will provide instruction, demonstration and lots of hands-on practice.
February 25: BELLY DANCING
This class is an introduction to the basic art of this empowering dance. Learn basic movements, choreography, and improvisational technique, while exercising and gaining exposure to the Middle Eastern dance culture. Improve your grace, agility, and confidence. No previous dance experience needed. Offered as a part of Eating Disorders Awareness Week.
March 11: INVERSIONS: UPSIDE DOWN YOU’RE TURNING ME
Discover how to perform inversions with ease, grace, and power. Learn tricks for kicking up, balancing, opening your shoulders, boosting your confidence, and connecting to a playful, positive spirit.
March 25: MEN’S YOGA
Yoga for men or “Broga” is a yoga class geared for men, where it’s okay if you can’t touch your toes. You’ll get that pumped-up feeling you get from working out, in addition to feelings of deep relaxation. This class offers men real tools to improve flexibility and cope with daily stress through an accessible, fitness-based class geared towards beginners.
April 8: TAI CHI TO GO
This “to-go” method of tai chi is easy to learn, perfect for beginners and easy to take on the road. In this class you will perform a series of postures or movements in a slow, graceful manner that, when combined together, form a short “dance.” The slow circular movements, blended with deep breathing, help to decrease stress, increase range of motion, improve flexibility and balance and cultivate a sense of well-being.
April 22: EARTH DAY YOGA, Picket Park
Get your Vinyasa on and celebrate Earth Day in this outdoor Yoga Flow class. This class is appropriate for all levels. Participants are encouraged to dress in layers and to bring a beach towel, blanket or yoga mat.
With so much nutrition information out there, how do you know what is fact and what is fiction? Get answers to all of your questions and more! Join Registered Dietitian, Michelle Singleton, and learn how to sift through “junk science” and find the answers you are looking for. All workshops are free; no registration required.

February 5: Vegan and Vegetarian Nutrition
Many are interested in the advantages and potential health benefits of “going veggie.” If you’re one of these people or want to learn more about vegetarianism, this workshop is for you! Learn the science behind eating a plant based diet, potential risks of eliminating meat from your diet, how to adapt recipes, key nutrients of concern, and more!
April 2: Healthy Eating on a Budget
Do you feel like you’re trying to make changes to your meals and snacks but are spending a ton at the store? Eating a healthy diet doesn’t have to be expensive! Learn tips and tricks for meal planning, grocery shopping, and food prep that won’t break the bank.
Financial Fitness Workshops
Join representatives from Purdue Federal Credit Union to learn healthy financial habits that can make the difference between going broke or building wealth. No registration required; all workshops are free.

February 12: Build a Basic Budget
Building and following a budget is essential to financial success. This workshop will show you how to develop a simple, but effective budget to help you become financially independent!
March 12: Identity Theft and Fraud
This workshop will provide strategies to help protect yourself from identity theft, as well as teach you what to do if you become a victim of this crime.
April 9: Housing Options
This workshop will cover the pros and cons of renting vs. owning, how a lease works, and mortgages. This program is ideal for anyone about the rent a house or apartment, and those considering purchasing a home.
