WERQ® TO HAMMER DOWN CANCER

Wednesday, October 8, 8:30-9:20pm, Feature Gym

WERQ® to Hammer Down Cancer in this fiercely fun dance fitness class featuring pop, rock and hip hop music taught by your very own Purdue Rec Sports - Group X instructors.  100% of proceeds from this event will benefit Purdue’s Hammer Down Cancer campaign, a partnership with Purdue University’s Center for Cancer Research, which is focused on discovering how cancers develop, progress and respond to treatment. This event is open to the community.  A Group X Pass or Rec Sports membership is not required to participate.

*This is a donation-funded class for charity.  Donations will be collected by the Center for Cancer Research upon entry.

Cooking Latin American Food: Costa Rican and Puerto Rican Cuisine

Join Aurelio Curbelo, Director of the Latino Cultural Center, and learn how to make traditional Costa Rican and Puerto Rican dishes, such as Arroz con Gandulez, Pan de Bono, Yuca Frita, and other delicious treats.  This FREE event is provided by the Latino Cultural Center and Rec Sports as a part of Latino Heritage Month.

Take your fitness routine to the next level and learn how to maximize our specialized strength equipment.  We will focus on how to effectively and efficiently target and challenge your abs, lower back, and gluts by incorporating dynamic, functional movements.  No registration required. Fundamentals of Olympic Weightlifting

Sundays, 2-4pm, East Fitness, Olympic Lift Platforms

This two hour course will deconstruct the major Olympic lifts, as well as provide tips for basic technique and form.  Please register by 12:00pm the Friday before your desired workshop.

Powerlifting Series

Fridays, 4-4:30pm, East Fitness 

Learn the foundations of powerlifting in this three-part series. Each thirty minute session is dedicated to a specific lift in which you will practice and receive constructive feedback. The better your posture and technique, the better you’ll be able to execute the movement, and more powerful you’ll become! No registration required. Space is limited; please arrive early to reserve your spot.
