Rock Your Resolution Fitness Challenge

Mondays and Wednesdays, January 26th-March 4th, 6-6:50pm, $84.00 Students, $102 Faculty/Staff

Are you ready to set AND achieve your 2015 New Year’s Resolutions?

The Rock Your Resolution Fitness Challenge is your first chance to kick start the New Year with the help of our personal trainers and wellness partners. Whether you want to lose weight, gain strength, or reduce stress, this class is designed to help you reach you goals and develop lifelong healthy habits. The program includes:

  • A circuit-style workout that push your cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength and mobility, with the encouragement of the team on Mondays.
  • Small group training for the opportunity to work closely with your personal trainer, and wellness workshops covering topics such as proper nutrition, behavior modification, and stress reduction on Wednesdays.
  • Incentives for attending additional workshops, completing fitness assessments, and more.

2015 Spring Triathlon Challenge

February 2nd –March 2nd 

Free, First 300 participants will receive a t-shirt after completion of the challenge.

We are challenging all Boilermakers to complete an Ironman distance triathlon! What’s the catch? We are giving you the entire month of February to complete the race.  Upon signing up you will receive a welcome email explaining the rules, a tracking log, four sample plans to choose from, and weekly e-mails to keep you on track.  The top 300 finishers will receive an official 2014 Spring Triathlon Challenge t-shirt.  Push yourself, challenge your friends, improve your health, free t-shirt; this challenge has it all! Registration ends February 6th at noon.  

Eating Disorders Awareness Week: February 23-27

You cannot weigh….. (beauty, strength, intelligence, love, compassion, etc.)

Join Rec Sports and a variety of our campus partners in celebrating you just the way you are!  In addition to the events listed below, information tables and displays will be located throughout campus to provide information about eating disorders, resources for help, and how to develop a healthy body and self image.

Monday, February 23: Superfoods Cooking Demonstration

Superfoods are nutrient-rich foods that are considered to be particularly good for your health and well-being. This demonstration will show you how to make quick, easy and delicious recipes using a variety of superfoods.  You will also learn about how food is essential health and well-being.

7-8pm, Demonstration Kitchen, $10   

Tuesday, February 24: Fat Talk Free Workshop

Fat Talk describes any statement that reinforces the thin-ideal standard of beauty and contributes to dissatisfaction with your body. This workshop will educate about the damaging impact of fat talk and pursuing the thin ideal, inspire change in the way we think and feel about our bodies, and promote a healthy lifestyle that encourages a balanced life in mind, body & spirit.

Wednesday, February 25: Belly Dancing Workshop

This class is an introduction to the basic art of this empowering dance.  Learn basic movements, choreography, and improvisational technique, while exercising and gaining exposure to the Middle Eastern dance culture. Improve your grace, agility, and confidence

Thursday, February 26: Love Your Body Zumba

Zumba is a Latin inspired workout that is empowering and fun!  Do the Samba, Cumbia, and Cha-Cha and embrace how your body can move.

5:30-6:20pm, Feature Gym, free (Group X Pass is not required)

6th Annual World’s Strongest Boilermaker

Registration opens January 12th, Prelims are April 18th, and finals are April 19th

Registration closes April 10th at 5:00pm

$15 per person, includes a t-shirt

World’s Strongest Boilermaker is Purdue’s ultimate test of strength, power and determination. All athletes compete in four preliminary events challenging raw power and muscular endurance.  The top six competitors in each weight class will come back the next day to compete in four more challenging events.  Do you have the drive, desire and motivation to become one of the World’s Strongest Boilermakers?

*This event is open to both men and women. Women will compete in separate weight classes. All events will be the same for men and women, but weights used will vary.

World’s Strongest Boilermaker open practice times

April 3 and April 10, 2-5pm

This is the perfect opportunity to practice lifting and refine technique with assistance from Rec Sports Personal Trainers.   Drop in any time between 2-5pm to prepare for the World’s Strongest Boilermaker or just practice strongman exercises.  Tires, atlas stones, farmers walk bars, and a sled/harness will be available.  No registration required. 

Core Clinic Series

Tuesdays 6:00-6:30pm and Wednesdays 7:00-7:30pm

Take your fitness routine to the next level and learn how to maximize our specialized strength equipment.  We will focus on how to effectively and efficiently target and challenge your abs, lower back, and gluts by incorporating dynamic, functional movements.  All clinics will take place in Scifres Functional Fitness unless noted otherwise.  No registration required. Space is limited; please arrive early to reserve your spot.

Fundamentals of Olympic Weightlifting

Sundays, 2-4pm, East Fitness, Olympic Lift Platforms

This two hour course will deconstruct the major Olympic lifts, as well as provide tips for basic technique and form.  Please register by 12:00pm the Friday before your desired workshop.

Powerlifting Series

Fridays, 4-4:40pm, East Fitness Olympic Lift Platforms

Learn the foundations of powerlifting in this three-part series. Each thirty minute session is dedicated to a specific lift in which you will practice and receive constructive feedback. The better your posture and technique, the better you’ll be able to execute the movement, and more powerful you’ll become! No registration required. Space is limited; please arrive early to reserve your spot.
