I am a firm believer that with the right mindset, no goal is unachievable. Persistence and discipline are not only the most important parts, they’re the hardest parts. Having come into college weighing in excess of 240 lbs, I have turned over a new leaf and now compete in the Men’s Physique Division of the NPC. I enjoy helping people learn more about weight lifting and as a result, make a change in their lives.

Areas of expertise

Philosophy of fitness and wellness

The reasons for which each and every one of us chooses to exercise are different. What is most important is to discover what YOUR reasons are and use these to establish goals. When the training gets tough, the early mornings grow old and your schedule gets in the way, these goals will motivate you to push on to a stronger you.

Philosophy on Fitness and Wellness

Successful fitness plans incorporate a balance of all three major components: cardio, muscular strength/endurance, and flexibility. To reap the full benefits of your hard work, you must have a well-rounded routine. Also, fitness is happiness! Improving your fitness means improving your quality of life. And if you don’t enjoy it, that just means that you haven’t found the right kinds of exercises for you. There are a lot of options out there to stay fit and healthy, I can help you find what you enjoy!

Philosophy of fitness and wellness

Anyone can achieve a healthy lifestyle.  It takes time and dedication to improve and maintain your physical fitness.  What you eat and how you train will dictate what kind of results you see. The hardest part is starting, but once you get into a routine of working out and eating healthy foods, you will notice the benefits of reduced stress, improved physical and mental health, and enhanced overall health.  Set a goal and start working to accomplish that goal.  Don't be afraid to seek help or ask questions along the way.  “Leave all the afternoon for exercise and recreation, which are as necessary as reading. I will rather say more necessary because health is worth more than learning.” ~ Thomas Jefferson.

I know the importance of long-term adherence and love the challenge of helping others find a way to stick to exercising. I want to help clients make a life style change not just a temporary interest in getting fit. Creating this enjoyment for exercise helps people to lose weight and feel better both physically and mentally. I want to teach a wide variety of exercises that are fun and challenging to create a healthy life.

Certifications

ACE Personal Trainer, Lifeguarding CPR/AED, and First Aid.

Areas of expertise

Swimming and corrective exercises.

Outside Interests

Enjoying the great outdoors (skiing, hiking, water sports), traveling, reading, piano, time with friends and family.

Philosophy on fitness and wellness

As my former coach repeatedly reminded me, "fitness is 70% mental and only 30% physical," I have found that this is absolutely true.  Though I was never the top athlete on my team in high school, it was the determination and consistency that launched me towards reaching my own goals today.  I love sharing with people what I have been taught about how the body works together as an integrated system to create movement.  When a physical problem arises, the source is not always obvious, and identifying the issue in order to rectify it is both exciting and rewarding.  Fitness and wellness is an everyday choice.  Change does happen, only when every area of life (fitness, wellness, sleep, nutrition) is improved upon.  Implementing small changes in moderation and sticking with those good changes produces positive permanent results.

My time as an elite high school fencer led me to work with a personal trainer who really helped me improve my game and fully appreciate the benefits of strength training and overall conditioning. I love to workout and find it improves every aspect of my life. Exercise should be fun and engaging. Eating well and moving every day results in a happy, healthy person. One of my favorite quotes is "everything is hard before it is easy" (Goethe). Making exercise a part of your life so that it's an easy habit to have is my goal for everyone.

Living out an active lifestyle is a combination of a powerful mind and capable body to take you where you want to be.  Find what gives you purpose and use that to fuel your desire to be a healthier version of you. Strength, circuit, and bodyweight/functional training; metabolic conditioning; weight loss; and overall healthy living habits (nutrition, behavior, physical activity).

Outside Interests

Being outdoors (biking, walking, and running), cooking healthy meals, reading, and visiting new and exciting places.

Philosophy on Fitness & Wellness

I’ve found through my own experience in fitness that you must do something that YOU love, not necessarily what everyone else is doing to be active. Physical fitness is what YOU make it. Life is too short to stress out about what training program can get you a 6-pack the quickest. Instead, focus on what makes you FEEL good, and the rest will fall into place naturally. It’s also important to remember that with a healthy body, one must also have a healthy mind. Exercise mindfully, eat real foods, and sleep well. Your body will thank you.
