Philosophy of fitness and wellness : Anyone can achieve a healthy lifestyle. It takes time and dedication to improve and maintain your physical fitness. What you eat and how you train will dictate what kind of results you see. The hardest part is starting, but once you get into a routine of working out and eating healthy foods, you will notice the benefits of reduced stress, improved physical and mental health, and enhanced overall health. Set a goal and start working to accomplish that goal. Don't be afraid to seek help or ask questions along the way. “Leave all the afternoon for exercise and recreation, which are as necessary as reading. I will rather say more necessary because health is worth more than learning.” ~ Thomas Jefferson.

Certifications: ACE Personal Trainer, Lifeguarding CPR/AED, and First Aid.
Areas of expertise: Swimming and corrective exercises.
Outside Interests: Enjoying the great outdoors (skiing, hiking, water sports), traveling, reading, piano, time with friends and family.
Philosophy on fitness and wellness: As my former coach repeatedly reminded me, "fitness is 70% mental and only 30% physical," I have found that this is absolutely true. Though I was never the top athlete on my team in high school, it was the determination and consistency that launched me towards reaching my own goals today. I love sharing with people what I have been taught about how the body works together as an integrated system to create movement. When a physical problem arises, the source is not always obvious, and identifying the issue in order to rectify it is both exciting and rewarding. Fitness and wellness is an everyday choice. Change does happen, only when every area of life (fitness, wellness, sleep, nutrition) is improved upon. Implementing small changes in moderation and sticking with those good changes produces positive permanent results.

Melissa
Major: Applied Exercise and Health.
Certifications: ACSM Personal Trainer, CPR/AED, and First Aid.
Areas of expertise: My strong interest in physical therapy has led me to thoroughly enjoy the effects of pilates and yoga. Flexibility and mobility are two of my strong points. I include a great deal of flexibility training into all exercise routines. I have a strong history in running with the ability to create appropriate running programs and am currently training for my first triathlon so I am learning more about swimming and biking. I love all areas of fitness though including kettle bell and TRX routines.
Outside Interests: When I'm not training others I am most likely working out. I spend a large majority of my free time being active and learning more about exercise. I enjoy all types of physical activity. When I'm not doing that, I absolutely love spending time with my friends. Laughing is one of my favorite things so I love being around my friends who always know how to make me laugh.
Philosophy on fitness and wellness: As mentioned above, flexibility and mobility are key factors in order to stay healthy. If one is lacking in these areas it will affect all other areas. I've always believed that exercise is all about finding what you enjoy and doing it often. If you don't like to run, you don't have to run. Find something else that you like to do. Exercise should be challenging but you should enjoy it as well!
