Class Descriptions
Strength
BODY SCULPT
Strength training isn’t just for the weight room. Body Sculpt is the ultimate full body workout designed to strengthen and tone every muscle group, using a variety of equipment, including dumbbells, resistance bands, Ballast Balls, BOSUs, Lebert Equalizers, medicine balls and gliding discs. Exercises and equipment are selected by the instructor and creatively woven together for a unique workout that varies from week to week.
CORE
Core targets the torso and sling muscles that connect your upper body to your lower body. This class is ideal for improving core stability and functional strength, as well as assisting in injury prevention. A strong core will help you run faster, play harder and stand stronger! Core consists of exercises that both isolate and integrate the various muscle groups. This short, focused workout will challenge you to the core!
TABATA
Tabata is a form of high intensity interval training that produces remarkable results in both aerobic and anaerobic capacity. Each Tabata workout will consist of a warm-up (5 minutes), five total body exercises using intervals (20 minutes) and a flexibility phase (5 minutes).
METCON3
This high-intensity, total body workout utilizes all three of the body’s energy systems to rev up your metabolism. The instructor will take you through 3 sets of 10-minute intervals, using equipment such as the ViPR, resistance bands, dumbbells, medicine balls and much more. Start and end class with a foam rolling session that will enhance flexibility.
UPPER BODY BLAST
This 30-minute session is designed to strengthen and tone the chest, back, shoulders and arms. This class provides a complete workout with abdominal and lower back conditioning, as well as chest and shoulder flexibility.
LOWER BODY BLAST
This 30-minute session is designed to strengthen and tone the glutes, thighs and hamstrings. This class provides a complete workout with abdominal and lower back conditioning, as well as hip and thigh flexibility.
Cardio
CARDIO BLAST
Looking for an awesome cardio workout? This class is for you! Cardio Blast fuses the best that floor exercise has to offer, including traditional hi/lo impact aerobics, dance, sport agility drills and kickboxing. Prepare for a fun and challenging class, guaranteed to get your heart pumping.
CALIENTE KICK
Heat things up with the hottest mash-up of Latin music and Turbo Kick beats. You are sure to be energized with this hot and spicy cardio workout that combines the sweet mix of hip hop and martial arts experienced in Turbo Kick and the International dance beats from Zumba that take your energy levels sky high! Your instructor will teach 25 minutes of Turbo Kick followed by another 25 minutes of Zumba. Caliente Kick will never allow you to get bored with your cardio routine!
TURBO KICK®
The evolution of kickboxing is here! This addictive workout combines shadow boxing, kickboxing, sport drills, and simple dance moves in a party atmosphere. Great music and high energy will keep you moving and feeling fit. Kick, punch and groove in this action-packed, super fun, cardiovascular workout. It’s kickboxing and so much more!
Cardio Strength Fusion
BOSU® TOTAL BODY BLAST
Check out this new twist on a traditional cardio workout! The BOSU® balance trainer looks like a small stability ball cut in half, with a dynamic rubber surface. This class will introduce instability to your workout, so you engage both small and large muscle groups. Combining high-intensity bouts of strength and cardiovascular training, this total body workout will add a new dimension and a new challenge to your routine.
Dance
ZUMBA®
Ditch the workout and join the party! This Latin-inspired, dance-fitness class incorporates Latin and international music and dance moves, creating a dynamic, exciting, exhilarating and effective workout. Each ZUMBA® fitness party combines fast and slow rhythms of Cumbia, Meringue, Salsa, Reggaeton, Hip-Hop, Pop, Mambo, Rumba, Flamenco, Calypso and Salsaton to help tone and sculpt the body with easy to follow dance moves! No dance experience required.
Mind Body
PIYO STRENGTH™
This class is a hybrid, athletic workout inspired by the mind/body practices of Yoga and Pilates, as well as the principles of sports stretch, strength training, conditioning, and dynamic movement. The moves utilize energy, power and rhythm to form an intense choreography that is fun and challenging. It is a unique class designed to build strength & gain flexibility. The moves fit perfectly together to form a class filled with intense choreography that’s fun, challenging and will make you sweat. Think sculpted abdominals, increased overall strength, and greater stability. No previous Yoga or Pilates experience required.
OUTDOOR YOGA
Take your yoga practice outdoors and connect to yourself and to your surroundings. Participants are encouraged to dress in layers and bring a beach towel, blanket or yoga mat. The 30 minute sessions, which are geared toward all fitness levels, are held 12:15-12:45 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays on the Purdue Mall South Lawn. In case of inclement weather, class will be cancelled. Sessions held on June 16th and 18th will take place on the front yard of the Armory. Session held on July 4th will be cancelled. Water Fitness
AQUA ZUMBA (45)
Known as the Zumba® “pool party,” the Aqua Zumba program gives new meaning to the idea of an invigorating workout. Splashing, stretching, twisting, even shouting, laughing, hooting and hollering are often heard during an Aqua Zumba class. Integrating the Zumba formula and philosophy with traditional aqua fitness disciplines, the Aqua Zumba class blends it all together into a safe, challenging, water-based workout that’s cardio-conditioning, body-toning, and most of all, exhilarating beyond belief.
DEEP WATER FITNESS (45)
Grab your swimsuit and head to the Boilermaker Aquatic Center’s. This warm water exercise program takes place in our 86 degree diving well and incorporates cardio, strength and core training movements using flotation belts, water dumbbells, noodles and the resistance of the water. Challenge your body, improve flexibility and endurance while enjoying the therapeutic benefits of water exercise. This total body workout is open to all fitness levels.
H20 BODY BLAST (45)
Experience your favorite high intensity workouts in a whole new way – in the pool! Challenge and change your body with a cross training combination of cardio intervals, strength and core drills, kickboxing, pilates and flexibility work with the added resistance and low impact benefits of water. Jump in and make a splash and enjoy the pure fun of this 45 minute water extravaganza with land equivalent intensity, fantastic sing-along quality music and dynamic instructors. This water fitness workout provides a challenge for participants of all ages, skill and fitness.
VORTEX CHALLENGE
Come experience one of the newest additions to the CoRec, the vortex! Located in our heated indoor shallow water pool, the vortex pushes water in a circular motion creating a current of resistance. Your instructor will lead you through 30-minutes of intense cardio movements such as walking, jogging, kicking, cross-country ski, jumping jacks and other drills and skills as you push against the current of the water for a major cardiovascular workout without the strain on your joints! Water shoes recommended but not required.
