Climbing and Bouldering Wall Access Policy
- Individuals 15 years and younger must be supervised by and in the company of a parent/guardian/adult chaperone at all times.
- Individuals under the age of 4 may not use the Climbing Wall.
- Participants must comply with all posted Climbing and Bouldering Wall policies.
- Participants must be 16 years old or older to participate in workshops or take a belay competency exam.
- Individuals without a DRS membership may not participate in Climbing Wall Workshops.
- Climbers interested in lead climbing and belaying must schedule a test with Andrew Lyburn, Assistant Director for Climbing and Challenge Education. Lead test requests must be submitted via Andrew’s email, alyburn@purdue.edu
Bouldering Wall Policies
- Climbing on top of the bouldering wall is not permitted.
- Spotting while bouldering is strongly recommended.
- Loose chalk is prohibited. Please use a chalk ball.
- Personal belongings are not permitted on the bouldering wall landing surface.
- Boulderers may not move or tighten hand holds. Please inform facility staff of any loose holds.
- Walking or climbing underneath other boulderers or in front of spotters is strictly prohibited.
- Inform staff and other climbers of any situation seen as unsafe or not in accordance with the safety policies.
- All climbers are asked to assist and encourage less experienced climbers.
- All accidents or equipment damage must be reported immediately.
Climbing Wall Policies
- Participants must check-in at the Climbing Wall Desk prior to climbing.
- Participants must pass a belay competency exam prior to belaying. Belayers must wear the appropriate belay tag at all times. Transfer of belay tags is prohibited.
- Only UIAA approved climbing equipment may be used. All climbers who choose to use their own equipment must have a signed Personal Equipment Release on file.
- Helmet use is recommended. Helmets are available for rent at the Climbing Wall Desk. All climbers who choose not to wear a helmet must have a signed Helmet Release on file.
- Bouldering on the Climbing Wall is not allowed.
