Membership & Eligibility Policies

Overview

The Division of Recreational Sports strives to provide quality recreation, fitness, and social experiences for the students at the West Lafayette campus. All DRS facilities have controlled access. Authorized users with automatic privileges include any full-time undergraduate or graduate student.

Use of DRS facilities and related programs are also available to the Purdue community including, faculty, staff, retirees, alumni and certain household members and/or guests of these constituents. Privileges are acquired by paying an associated membership fee or a daily admission fee. Memberships and related policies are as follows:

  • Full Membership Privileges
  • Access to all facilities during all operational hours after presenting a valid PUID. Program participation is an additional fee.
  • Guests cannot purchase Group X or LTP classes or participate in intramurals.
  • Eligible for a one-time locker.
  • Eligible to check out or rent personal recreation equipment.
  • Eligible to make court reservations.
  • Authorized to sponsor guests.
  • Authorized two courtesy entrances through the front entrance.
    • If you do not have your PUID, you may enter DRS facilities two times per semester. To use your courtesy visit, you MUST know your PUID number. Due to safety and security issues, we will not make exceptions to this policy.

Student Membership Policy

Fulltime students are automatically members of the RSC and have full privileges.

Academic year students must enroll for 8 credits or more for both fall and spring semesters.

Summer session students must enroll for 6 credits or more. Tuition must be paid in full for privileges to be granted.

Students in part-time status carrying less than the designated credit load may obtain a Part-time student membership. Paying the associated fees for a part-time membership will afford full membership privileges.

Continuing students may present a fee statement or a class schedule from the previous academic term, a valid PUID and pay associated fees to obtain full membership privileges equal to full-time student.

Faculty & Staff Policy

The “Faculty/Staff” category includes adjunct, associate, affiliate and emeritus faculty/staff, retirees, members of the University Ministers Association, or widows/widowers of deceased faculty/staff members.  Individuals from these groups may present a valid PUID and pay associated fees to obtain full membership privileges.

Visiting Scholars Policy

Visiting scholars pay the price of part-time students to become DRS members.

Household Membership Policy

Any individual that is eligible for a full membership as described above may sponsor one individual (18 or above) residing in the same residence (proof of same residence is required).  The secondary membership carries full privileges once associated fees have been paid. The valid Purdue ID of the sponsor must be presented at the time of purchase.

Family Membership Policy

Family memberships include primary member, spouse/domestic partner and legal dependents (ages 5-18 and full-time college students up to age 25).  Dependent memberships are restricted per minor policies listed below. Family members may not purchase additional household memberships. We do not have an Alumni family or dependent pass.

Dependents Policy

Parents or guardians memberships may acquire a limited membership (see policies above) for legal dependents ages 5-18 and full-time college students up to age 25.  Because of limited facilities and programs offered in the DRS for small children, children under the age of five do not require a membership.  However, parents should use extreme caution when supervising children under the age of 5 participating in DRS activities.

Policy Pertaining to Minors

Dependents/Guests/Conferees under the age of 18 may utilize DRS facilities on the weekends (5 PM Friday-Sunday) and during DRS operational hours occurring over university break periods.

  1. Individuals under the age of 16 must be supervised by and in the company of a parent/guardian/adult chaperone at all times.
  2. Caution must be exercised when supervising children participating in DRS activities, ensuring that activities are age and skill appropriate, and safe relative to other activities and users within specific spaces. NOTE: DRS staff may restrict activity for any individual for safety considerations.
  3. Individuals ages 16-18 must be prepared to show proof of age when requested.
  4. Individuals age 16 and above may check out equipment and use the fitness areas.
  5. Parents or guardians with DRS memberships may acquire a limited membership for legal dependents ages 5-18 and full-time college students up to age 25.
