Support the RecWell Outdoor Master Plan!

Project Overview

The Purdue RecWell Outdoor Space Master Plan will provide a framework exploring opportunities regarding outdoor recreation and wellness facilities. The process includes an analysis of programming and potential development sites to develop a strategy that meets current and future recreation, health and wellness needs. The Plan will include a needs assessment and utilization analysis of existing outdoor facilities. Student and user group input will be incorporated through the process to guide the master planning team.

Vision:

The vision for Gold Fields and Pickett Park is to consider these outdoor venues as a single destination that provide a variety of outdoor spaces and activities to meet a diverse student population with a wide range of recreational needs, while still allowing space for future campus initiatives. The propsed recreation facilities will operate more efficiently and utilize less space.

Future Plans include:

  • Convert natural grass fields to synthetic turf
  • Create a Student Hub and additional student gathering spaces
  • Create a Sand Volleyball Complex
  • Convert Hull Drill Field to synthetic turf
  • Add multi-use walks and trail loops
  • Add pickleball courts
  • Enhance Pickett Park
  • Embrace Todd's Creek and Enhance Wellbeing Space at Pickett Park
  • Add a flex turf area
  • Add parking
  • Relocate football parking
  • Improve disc golf
  • Add practice fields
  • Add parking

Support the Howard and Mary Taylor Endowment for Student Success

Give to the Endowment Now!

RecWell serves as the second largest employer of students on Purdue's campus with over 700 students employed annually. Our employment positions provide opportunities for students to develop leadership, communication, conflict resolution, and critical thinking skills while working in a team. And we’re more than just their employer. We’re an ambassador for their success inside and outside of RecWell. Our recently renamed Howard & Mary Taylor Endowment for Student Success supports these student employees through professional development opportunities and academic scholarships while honoring the legacy of Howard & Mary Taylor, and their commitment to student success inside and outside of the CoRec.

Pickett Memorial Park is named for the late Dean Pickett, a student at Purdue. He died in July 1969 in Yosemite National Park when a ledge he was standing on gave way. His parents, Robert and Margaret Pickett, established the park in 1971 to memorialize their son and his great love of the outdoors.
