March 24 at 3:00 PM - March 26, 2017 at 11:00 AM

Every year, a university in the north central section of The Wildlife Society (TWS) hosts a student conclave for the universities within the section, usually about 14 schools altogether. This year Purdue's student chapter of TWS is hosting. It will be taking place from March 24-26 at YMCA Camp Tecumseh in Brookston, IN. On the 24th we will register students as they arrive, have a few short activities, and have a bonfire social that evening in order to meet each other. Saturday we are planning on having several speakers come to talk about various aspects of wildlife conservation and how we can prepare ourselves as wildlife professionals in the future. We will also have a Wildlife Olympics and Quiz Bowl competition on Saturday evening. On Sunday we will wrap up the event with a leader's meeting in the morning and checking-out students as they leave. All in all, this event is extremely important to wildlife students as an opportunity to talk to other students from around the surrounding states along with current professionals in the field for networking experiences.

Purdue Timmy Global Health's 12th Annual Banquet and Silent Auction: Small Things with Great Love

March 24, 2017 | 5:30 PM - 10:00 PM

The Purdue Timmy Global Health 12th Annual Banquet & Silent Auction: Small Things with Great Love is the chapter's largest fundraising and advocacy event of the year. The event focuses on celebrating Ecuadorian culture and food through a healthcare framework. Dr. Chuck Dietzen, a Purdue Alumnus and Timmy Global Health's founder, was inspired to expand access to healthcare for those in Ecuador by modeling Mother Teresa's selfless work in India. Dr. Chuck chose to work in Ecuador because of one of his patient's family ties to Ecuador. He promised his patient that he would look after the children of Ecuador in her honor.
Purdue Timmy sends 18 motivated students to Quito, Ecuador every spring break to care for Dr. Chuck's patients in the rural communities of Quito. This event celebrates Ecuadorian culture by sharing students' experiences in Ecuador, selling Ecuadorian goods, serving Ecuadorian food, and hearing Dr. Chuck's inspirational stories of Ecuador. Furthermore, this even supports the people of Ecuador as 100% of profits go toward helping those in need and continuing Dr. Chuck's mission of providing quality access to healthcare.

Additionally, this event will advertise and spread positive word of mouth for the Purdue University. Furthermore, the Nowruz event provides opportunities for leadership development and community engagement.

The Nowruz event will provide Purdue students, staff, and community members with a chance to experience Afghan cuisine. TEDxPurdueU presents unscripTED

March 25, 2017 | 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM

TEDxPurdueU will be hosting their main event for the 2016-2017 season, “unscripTED,” on March 25th from 1:00 pm-5:00 pm, in Loeb Playhouse at the Stewart Center. This event is open to the public and tickets are on sale now. Student tickets are $15 and tickets for the general public are $25.
Despite our best efforts, most of what happens in our life is out of our hands. We do not pick and choose our circumstances, and our lives do not typically unfold in the exact way we expect. While we cannot choose what circumstances befall us, we can always do one thing: react. Life is unpredictable, and the way we react is what dictates how we live our lives. This idea of reacting to unplanned circumstances is exactly what this upcoming TEDxPurdueU event will tackle. Ranging from football coaches, to CEOs, to social workers, our speakers will show how they have reacted to their varying circumstances. These speakers will share how they have lived life unafraid, unfazed, and unscripTED.

Scavenger Hunt

March 25, 2017 | 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM

This enjoyable and educational scavenger hunt will take students to different parts of Purdue and challenge their abilities to solve clues and work together in teams. We have targeted 100 students to participate. All participants will assemble in Wiley at 7 pm. They will first sign in and then will be divided in groups of 10 with one assigned leader. There will be total 10 groups. After all the groups are assigned, the first clue will be handed over to the leaders. The scavenger hunt will start at 7:30 pm. Each group will be given a “passport”. Their goal is to find the 5 checkpoints on campus using whatever routes they select. We will set 5 checkpoints at different place on campus. The checkpoints will be one that is historically significant to the Purdue campus but is relatively unknown. The idea being that clues will educated international undergraduate students to know more about the historical relevance or "legends" behind the checkpoints and at the same time explore more of the campus. Each checkpoint will be managed by at least two directors of UR Global club. Once at the checkpoint, there will be different international game challenge for each checkpoint to be played by the team. The idea here is to expose students to global games! Based on the teams performance on the challenge, their passports will be stamped. Teams decide their routes. Time is not a decisive factor for victory. After five stamps are collected by the team, the team can go to the finish line and receive a prize (medals) by showing the passport. The medals are not the final prizes. We would not tell them the criteria for the final winning at the beginning, we would just instruct them to have fun, explore, observe, and collect stamps. Participants would be asked to return to Wiley at 9:00 pm. After arrival of the teams, food will be provided. Wrap-up session would be conducted from 9:30 - 10:30 pm by directors. We will have a quiz contest at this session. We will ask them questions about their team members, UR Global, and Purdue at the final Party, which team got the most correct answers will win a special prize(UR Global T-shirts). For the final contest, we will have a buzzer round. The team presses the button most quickly will get the change to answer the question. If they get it right, they will earn 10 points, if they got it wrong, 5 points will be deducted. They have 10 seconds to answer each question. 20-30 questions will be asked. The team who wins this contest will get the special prize. Questions related to the checkpoint will be asked. This is because we want them to observe, to communicate and to pay attention while playing the game. We want everyone to be involved and have a great time with UR Global. The mission of UR Global is to provide first-year international students with support and encouragement as they transition to life at Purdue. The target of this event is not only first year students who are unfamiliar with Purdue Campus, but also students who are curious about Purdue’s history and culture, and students who want to have fun and make friends by playing international games. The event provides them the learning experiences outside the classroom. They will be challenged as a team both physically and intellectually.

Trip to Kankakee Sands

March 26, 2017 | 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM

The Environmental Science Club plans to tour the facilities and viewing area of the new American Bison pasture of The Nature Conservancy’s Kankakee Sands prairie preserve in Morocco, Indiana. In late 2016, The Nature Conservancy reintroduced a herd of approx. 30 American Bison to the tallgrass prairie which they once roamed in northern Indiana. Their removal from the landscape has been a detriment to the tallgrass prairie ecosystem and TNC plans to see how effective these bison would be to help restore this natural balance. This reintroduction serves multiple purposes, not only does it reintroduce these animals (now the national mammal) to their previous range, but reintroduces a disturbance regime of grazing, wallowing, etc. that plants and animals of the tallgrass prairie adapted to favor. The bison herd serves as an ecosystem management tool on the Kankakee Sands prairie preserve. We plan to observe their behavior, learn about the prairie restoration, and the bison’s role as a management tool for the restoration project.

March 26, 2017 | 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM

The Multicultural Greek Council will be holding a stroll competition, where various Greek organizations in the Purdue community will come together to showcase their own unique stroll routine to the rest of campus.

A "stroll" is an energetic, synchronized dance typically performed by members of cultural Greek organizations. Perfomers move together in a line expressing pride for their organization through the use of their organization’s call, sign or historical information, ritual/custom dances, etc. All of this is done through movements that are unique to a particular organization.

CESAC Scavenger Hunt

March 27 at 8:30 AM - March 29, 2017 at 10:00 PM

In addition to other CE Week events, CESAC wishes to hold a scavenger hunt for current and potential Civil Engineering students (FYE). The scavenger hunt a freeform event that takes place on campus with answer submissions via CESAC's social media pages (Twitter and Facebook). There will be prizes in the form of gift cards for the 1st-3rd place teams. All teams that successfully participate (answer at least one clue a day) will receive a free lunch from Qdoba (see additional date in this submission form).

Example Hints:

1) Today’s first question celebrates the transportation emphasis within Civil Engineering. If you get “two tired” to walk to class, a bunch of these you will surely get you there fast. You have to share this reZource so make sure to get there first. Find three facilities.

Answer: Zagster bike racks (x3)

2) Today’s second clue celebrates the structural emphasis within Civil Engineering. You can find this building cutting into the sky, there’s also a place that might make you feel like a Jedi… the ele-VADER takes you all the way to the top, find this circular room before you get your next stop! Take a pic inside this university landmark, so you can stay on the light side instead of the dark.

Answer: Beering Hall

3) Today’s bonus question celebrates the social and communication qualities Civil Engineers often have or seek to acquire. Meet someone new on this famous strip and here’s a tip: a friendly greeting goes a long way, try and get someone else to say “hey” and take a picture with you

Answer: The “Hello Walk”

Sustainability Table

March 27, 2017 | 11:30 AM - 5:30 PM

The Sustainability Committee of Purdue 360 will be stationed at an informational table on Memorial Mall throughout the day. The focus of the table is twofold. One focus is to educate Purdue students on the results of a "How Sustainable Are You?" survey that has already been sent out. This will give people information on how sustainable students are, as well as give them ideas on what to write for sustainability pledges. These pledges will be written on paper leaves and displayed on a printout of a large tree. This will act as a strong visual representation of our school's environmental commitment. The other focus of this day will be the to promote a social media contest to promote sustainable places and things on campus.

Annual Graduate Student Education Research Symposium (AGSERS)

March 27, 2017 | 1:30 PM - 6:00 PM

The Annual Graduate Student Education Research Symposium (AGSERS) is a great opportunity for all graduate students at Purdue University to submit their proposals for research related to education. Submissions will be for poster and oral presentations.

We are pleased to announce that our keynote speaker for this year's symposium will be Dr. Mitzi Lewison. Currently residing at Indiana University, Dr. Lewison specializes in elementary education and language and literacy education. Her interests include: critical literacy, critical discourse analysis, and, per her website, "teaching language arts in culturally diverse settings, and exploring non-traditional, more empowering forms of professional development" (see http://education.indiana.edu/dotnetforms/Profile.aspx?u=Lewison). She has previously served as the IU English Director on two US Agency for International Development (USAID) projects in Afghanistan, a true testament for putting theory into practice and contributing to both local and global education initiatives. Dr. Lewison speaks on the day of the AGSERS symposium at 4:15pm so come hear more about her unique perspective, work, and advice for emerging education researchers.

March 27, 2017 | 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Related Sciences (MANRRS) is a national, collegiate organization that promotes participation in agricultural sciences and related fields among ethnic minorities. At Purdue University, our chapter is dedicated to professionalism, leadership development, and giving back to the surrounding community. MANRRS is a high school version of the national, collegiate organization. With the help of the Purdue collegiate chapter, Jr. MANRRS chapters will be exposed to opportunities within the agricultural industry, agricultural science, and receive mentorship from Purdue students. The Purdue MANRRS chapter has recently developed two Jr MANRRS chapters within the state of Indiana (Gary and Indianapolis). By developing a Jr MANRRS chapter in these communities, we hope to encourage an interest in agricultural sciences among high school students in addition to providing leadership training, college preparation, and professional development opportunities.

MANRRS- Purdue Chapter will be travelling to Gary and Indianapolis, IN every other Monday and Thursday during this semester to host wokshops, mentoring, and help with professional development for the High School Students.

The High School in Gary is Thea Bowman Leadership Academy, and in Indianapolis we are partnered with the Ian Smith Foundation which meets at Kindezi High School In Indianapolis,IN.

Know Your Roots: Part 2

March 27 at 6:00 PM - March 28, 2017 at 8:00 PM

Know Your Roots is a series which includes the education, empowerment, and enlightenment of the public about healthy hair. Whether it is worn naturally, processed, or any style, your hair is your crown and must be taken care of properly. The Epsilon Kappa chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated hosted this event three years ago, and now it's back by popular demand. On college campuses and in professional life, many individuals feel they are judged or ridiculed about their hair and how they wear it. Our goal with the event is to share reasons to be proud of your hair and love the skin you are in. This event will be 2 hours long. The evening will begin with an interactive discussion that will cover any anonymous questions and/or well-known hair myths, as well as featuring amazing poetry by the Black Cultural Center's very own Haraka Writers. Representatives from Curly in College, Miss Jessie's, Antonio Fresh Locks Center, Kinky Curly and The Art of Life Café will provide their greatest hair care tips and secrets. Free samples from these vendors will be given out during “Hair Trivia”. There will be a live painting through the duration of the event, which will then be raffled off at the end to lucky winner. This series is brought to you by the African Students' Association, the Black Cultural Center and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated.

Student organization leaders are invited to this social learning event where they can connect with other student organization leaders and compare ideas about topics related to leadership here on campus and more broadly. Each session will have a different topic and/or guest speaker to drive discussion. Light refreshments will be served.

Purdue Ag Week

April 03 at 8:00 AM - April 07, 2017 at 5:00 PM

Purdue Ag Week is an annual initiative to promote and celebrate agriculture across Purdue’s campus. Led by students within the College of Agriculture, the sixth annual Ag Week will take place April 3 – 7, 2017. Purdue Ag Week serves two primary purposes: (1) to establish promotion initiatives across campus to recognize and celebrate modern agriculture and its technology advancements, and (2) to establish traditions that unite College of Agriculture students, clubs, and faculty; as well as encourages cohesion and support across the different colleges and organizations on campus.

The Purdue Ag Week Task Force holds two key events on the basis of education and service. We have submitted EPF's for these events--Burger Bash and Hammer Down Hunger. In addition to these events, the Ag Week Task for will set up a booth each day on Memorial Mall from 9:00 a.m. -- 3:00 p.m. Students can stop by the booth, take a quiz about agriculture and pick up a promo item.

Midwest Regional Conference

April 07 at 5:00 PM - April 08, 2017 at 5:30 PM

The twelfth annual Purdue Student Pugwash Midwest Regional Conference is titled “Space and Society: Governing the Galaxy” held on April 7-8, 2017. Our conferences have a history of bringing in a wide variety of distinguished speakers in their fields. In years previous, our keynote speakers included the honorable Dr. Peter Lyons, Nuclear Regulatory Commissioner, Dr. Arden Bement, Director of the National Science Foundation, Howard Bloom, acclaimed author of The Lucifer Principle, Nancy Lilly, Vice President of New Product Planning and Marketing Analytics at Eli Lilly and Co., and Bill Nye “The Science Guy,” host of the critically acclaimed children’s television program. Bill Nye’s keynote address boasted over 1000 attendees from throughout the Midwest.

This year’s conference will focus on the social and ethical dimensions relating to current issues of space science technology. Conference speakers will include but not limited to: keynote speaker Dr. Robert Zubrin, world-leading expert on Mars and Founder/CEO of Mars Society, Dr. Henry Melosh, Professor and renowned expert on impact cratering who will speak on “Asteroid Armageddon: The Human Response,” and AAE Professor Dr. Steven Collicott, one of Purdue University’s “Book of Great Teachers” and leading expert on suborbital research. We realize that these are complex subjects, and Pugwash will strive to incorporate a diversity of perspectives and details for these issues. A series of presentations and breakout sessions will allow participants to actively discuss the different topics presented in the conference. We expect a registration of 100 people for the conference and workshop.

The workshop will trial two methods—a photo elicitation and a ‘model UNESCO’ learning simulation. We will utilize pre and post surveys to gauge learning outcomes and student satisfaction and will use these results to improve the design of the workshops. Finally, we will provide students with tools for bringing this exercise back to their communities.

Come find out how you can get involved with the Old Masters Program April 10th at 7PM in Rawls 1086. The Old Masters Program is a unique and well-established annual event at Purdue University. It was created in 1950 when student leaders, business representatives, and university officials together defined success as "honesty, personal integrity, and a good philosophy." This sparked the idea to invite a group of ten successful and outstanding individuals to campus for the purpose of sharing ideas and experiences with the student body, thus comprising the first ten Old Masters. They have since been followed by over 600 eminent personalities helping this tradition at Purdue to strengthen and grow each year.

Brian Banks

April 12, 2017 | 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM

Brian Banks is an exonerated former football player with an inspiring story of injustice, strength & redemption.

A high school football star with his sights set on the NFL and a full-ride scholarship offer to pave his way, Brian's dreams were shattered when he was falsely accused and convicted of kidnap and rape. Ultimately exonerated after serving more than five years in prison and another five as a registered sex offender, he regained his reputation and now serves as a prominent and powerful activist against wrongful convictions.

Motivated by his motto, "the power of choice," Brian offers a deeply personal perspective on every individual’s capacity to choose how hardship and adversity affect their future. He leaves audiences with a renewed sense of optimism, as well as takeaways on the resilience of the human spirit and purposeful choices you can make to move your life in a positive direction.

Come hear Brians story on April 12th in Fowler Hall, STEW at 6:30pm!

SCAVMA Grand Rounds: “Define American: The Powerful Rise of Millennials of Color”

April 19, 2017 | 8:00 AM - 9:30 AM

Each semester the Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Association invites a speaker for Grand Rounds, a class required for all 1st-3rd year DVM students. This spring semester we are bringing in Shinjini Das to give a keynote speech entitled “Define American: The Powerful Rise of Millennials of Color”. With the ever-growing diversity at Purdue University and within veterinary medicine as a whole, SCAVMA feels this keynote address will have an impact on the way students perceive diversity. Shinjini herself is a diverse millennial scientist in her mid-twenties and recently established her own company (The Das Media Group), so she can offer a relatable perspective to our student body. Shinjini will be the first millennial speaker we’ve had talk about the issues of diversity about in our generation.

2017 University of Iowa MBA Business Analytics Cas...

April 20 at 8:00 AM - April 21, 2017 at 5:00 PM

The Iowa MBA Business Analytics Case Competition began in 2016 and is now in its 2nd year. The first annual competition saw a successful turnout of teams from 14 MBA programs around the country that came to Iowa City to solve a real-world business problem. Teams were asked to analyze admission data on patients of UnityPoint Health Clinics to identify risk factors that might lead to readmission of those patients. The desired outcome was to create a process that would reduce cost to both patient and provider, while also providing the highest quality of care to those patients. Teams analyzed a large data set and utilized various analytics tools and programs to create a visualization tool that would aid practicioners in their evaluation and treatment of patients. This competition seeks to create an environment in which students are able to help solve a real business problem while also getting real-time feedback from industry experts.
